Default peeklime template for phpBB?

has anyone done a port of the very, very wonderful peeklime template for phpBB?

i have a mambo site using that template, and a standalone phpbb that belongs to an affiliated site, and i'd like to make the phpBB look more like the peeklime mambo site

any ideas?

Go to the phpBB site and learn all about their templating system, then convert your template over to a phpBB template. IMHO it's much easier to make a template for MOS than phpBB. As far as I know no-one has created a phpBB template for MOS, even the official mamboserver forums use a butt-ugly template.

A better option would be to use simpleboard for MOS, then you wouldn't have to worry about making a new template. Of course, then you'd lose your phpBB forum, although I think there might be a database converter around somewhere.

No easy option. phpBB has great functionality, but if you want it to look like Mambo better to use simpleboard and help develop that project so that it can compete with phpBB.

phpBB are even releasing their own CMS, so you could switch to that.

Any of these options are likely to attract flames.

thanks.

been talking about this whole issue with my colleague and he thinks they should be seperate sites (ie: different user tables) but should have a common template, and contain banner ads and a navigation link to each other

this i have started work porting the peeklime theme to phpBB (i have quite a bit of experience with phpBB) and its looking good so far 8)

one question: copyright. is it an issue? i know vaguely about GNU licensing, but what do i need to do if i want to run the peeklime template (including their images) on a different piece of software (ie: not mambo) ? any ideas?

i have used a plain phpBB theme from www.forumimages.com as the basis, and tweaked it to use the peeklime images and stylesheets etc. and i've created a "footer" that credits both the FI and the peek people... but can anyone suggest a more formal route is houdl take? do you think i need to get approval from either "organisation" to use their code/images/etc?

thanks for you help

If it's open source, the only restriction is if you use the template to create a template for commercial sale. This would be the equivalent of packaging Mambo under your own brand and selling licenses (which has just happened, can't release details).

Altering GPL templates as a commercial service would also be ok, just as long as you don't sell them. Or something.

Thumbs up for creating a phpBB template for a Mambo template, if you need a side project mamboserver forums could use one in their new style.

Giving credit is always a good thing, and getting in touch with the creators can't hurt. Look forward to seeing the finished product

i've done a bit of work on it now and have uploaded an early test version here:

http://heartland.dc-hosting.net/phpBB2/

just need to do a bit of tweaking with the images so that remaining the phpBB ones are replaced with peeklime-esque ones

ummm, the bit on the footer about being "used with kind permission" is (for the time being) a slight untruth

when its finished i'll be sending the url to peekmambo.com and to forumimages.com in the hope of getting their approval

any thoughts?
