Talking Mambo Spread Firefox Template!

Well, finally my first mambo template release!

It's a mambo 1.0.9 version of the Spread Firefox community site. A mate wanted a similar design, so we figured why not create a "fan template" as well to spread the word of Firefox.

There is a hardcoded "module" that shows in realtime the number of Firefox downloads, a customised pathway to mimic the look of the SF breadcrumbs, and a module hack that allows for rounded corner modules.

The Spread Firefox site has bright green modules on the right, I've added to that with three more block colours taken from the SF site and a mambo orange one as well. It also has individual module styling (seperate from the rounded corner modules) to allow for the look of the left column modules and the login box. These hacks should not interfere with current 1.0.9 templates or modules.

All info on installing and even customising this template for your own uses is contained in a help file linked from the template info page. I've done a bit of tinkering on the template XML fields as well, which I'm not sure has actually been done before.

I've started a project on Mamboforge to host this template, as well as be a space for the development of Mambo add-ons such as a module that allows easy insertion of FF button/banner linkage and Firefox extensions.

If there are any dedicated Firefox & Mambo users out there, that have any experience in creating Firefox extensions, you're welcome to join the project as I think there could be much potential in Mambo Firefox extensions such as a toolbar.

Anyway, enough rambling, get the release from the project homepage:

Mambo Spread Firefox

And remember, GET FIREFOX AND TAKE BACK THE WEB!!!

Cheers,

Damian

Exclamation Re: Mambo Spread Firefox Template!

I've re-released this template as there was a file missing in the XML installer, which resulted in the top left corner of the orange box not being installed.

You can get the revised file from the Mambo Spread Firefox project.

Cheers,

Damian

And make sure you read the docs, it looks crap without the hack installed! :P

Hey, my first public feedback!

Thanks, the 4.5.1 version will be even niftier when I have the time to get round to it.

If you customise it for a site, let me know.

Cheers,

Damian

Default Re: Mambo Spread Firefox Template!

It is a very faithful representation. Well done on that note. Too bad http://spreadfirefox.com/ uses Drupal and not Mambo.

Cheers,

David

Talking Re: Mambo Spread Firefox Template!

Well, it seems the MSF project has already converted at least one major project from the Spread Firefox community over to Mambo. The MSF project has just been invited to be a part of the Mozilla Virtual Expo, which will spread the word of Mambo even further now as the site will be running Mambo.

I've also just updated the template again, with the Live Bookmarks for Firefox feature now built in to the template.

So go download it if you want that feature!

You can also checkout what it looks like online over at Trial Before Download for the moment.

Cheers,

Damian

Any idea when you might have this for 4.5.1?

Thumbs up Re: Mambo Spread Firefox Template!

Well, I'm very busy until the 15th doing a complete development and design overhaul on an aussie game review site over to Mambo.

After that, I've got a load of things I have to catch up on, and the MSF 4.5.1 template will be one of them. This time it will be a completely original template based on the Firefox theme, rather than a fan template based on the site

I'll be putting in a nice tabbed top menu, as well as taking advantage of 4.5.1 features. Also I'll make it easier to customise with a few built in headers to choose from, so you won't have to actually use it as a Spread Firefox template. Like the guy on www.spreadfirefox.nl did

Anyway, thanks for your interest and stay tuned.

Cheers,

Damian
