Question Is mambo the CMS for me?

Hello all, nice to meet you.

I was hoping you might be able to help me work out if Mambo is the CMS for me.
I'm very impressed with the look of it so far.

If possible, could you please tell me if mambo uses, or is possible to use:
  • forum such as phpbb2
  • the above, using an existing member list from postnuke
  • able to import a list of members from postnuke,
  • or can be added into the database manually?
  • sections of the site hidden for guests and shown for members?

My site is primarily for promoting DJ work, and their mixes.
I would like it ideally so that you have to become a member to download the mixes. Even ideallier (ok, i made that word up), the more you post in a forum, the higher status you are given and the more you can download, like i have seen on other sites. I presume this is a custom thing though?

I'd love your opinions and advice.
Much appreciated, thank you very much

hi and welcome @ mambers.com

1. there is a component for mambo to integreate a fully functional phpbb on www.tim-online.nl

2. yes, i think so. you can import your phpbb users in the "mambo-version" of phpbb and then you will be able to import the users in mambo. (But better you try it offline, bevor you do it on a productive mambo-site)

3. yes, there exists a script called Nuke 2 MOS. you will find it here:
http://www.mamboportal.com/index.php...&filecatid=483

4. see above

5. yes, you can define, what mambogroup will be able to view an Section/Category, there are also "groups" for public and a registered

DocMan is a very configurable document management system fior mambo, there you can define your own accessgroups to the document/downloads. I think it can do what you are looking for. -> www.mambodocman.com

hope i could help

cheers

Sascha

Sascha,

Thanks so much for that - pretty much answered all my questions
Seems like mambo could work for me.. but without a doubt, you'll see me on here in the future asking for help fixing the mistakes i've made!

Thanks again

ps. is it possible to install postnuke / xoop / invision etc modules into CMS or do you need specially designed modules?

Question Re: Is mambo the CMS for me?

Hi all,

I'm wondering which one of the current Mambo versions is the right one to start with? Is 4.5.1 usable for a mid size site? Does anybody have experience with different versions of Mambo? I'm also not sure about the main differences between 4.5 / 4.5.1 and 4.6. If I now try to configure a 4.5 installation (templates, components, bla...) is 4.6 complete different to em or is it possible to recycle most of the stuff?
Many questions... Thanx for any answers

so long
