Default Make module block 100%

Okay, I finally figured out how to add a background color to the module column (I'm in "learn by doing" mode... slow, sometimes...) but now I want to make the block fill 100% of the height of the column.

I managed to find a way to do this by inserting a height="100%" tag, but then the modules displayed in the vertical center of the column instead of from the top. I've tried inserting a valign="top" but can't find the right place for it; nothing I've tried works. Help!
Thank you!

The adoring, still newbie Susan
