Default Mos 5

I can remember reading a post some time ago about mambo being aimed at web sites and business sites/intranets, not community sites, but i keep seing it becomeing more of a community site like post nuke.
I have inspected other CMS systems and have found xoops to have alot of simularities to mos.

Anyway my few wishes for mos 5 are:
i know it has been mention before but you need to be able to have one database and one set up or admin area for multiple sites.

The admin needs to be able to remove core components like login etc if he dosent want them, this includes modules.

The admin also needs to be able to ad admin menu items and remove items, like modules.

Mos needs to allow their to be more forms, that allows the admin to set up unlimeted forms, and select what the user needs to enter i.e. name, e-mail, message etc. and set which ones are needed.
The admin can then chose to have the results e-mail to them, saved on the system for viewing later or both. and to allow for file upload which will either be e-maild to the admin or stay on the system and e-mail to the admin.

For the contact details their also needs to be a staff list that will list staff, not like the staff component, but the admin can chose to have them displayed by department, all in one list alphabetical and more, and each staff has a contact form online.

Their needs to be away for content to be on the front page only, so it is not catergoried under news.

The polls need to show results after the user has voted, and if the polls run for more than a month, it will not show the graps as no results but still says x amount of people have voted.

Allow the banner system to allow for cleints to sign up and make payment for set accounts set up by the admin, and allow for more than just the normal banners, but squire banners in the news and articles section, unless the admin has stated for some news not to show the banner.

include a mailing list, that has subscribe/unsubscribe, tempaltes, upload, export list, ad address, deleate address, merge lists, remove duplicates validate e-mails.

allow users to register, to chose their own password, but also have it e-mail'ed to them.
Allow the admin to edit the users home page from the admin area.
When users click on a page that requires them to register, it should say that they need to register, but alos have the register form on that page, and after registration it should take them to the page they requested, unless they have to wait to be validated or untill they click a link in an e-mail message they received in e-mail (depends on options admin choses)
allow for custom user groeps.
Allow admin to set up user account for a company/induvidual, and when they log in they have a custom menu that the admin set up, that can show pages and files that only they will see, pirvate mesages,.

Allso allow the admin to place a link anyware on the site and it is acutaly a file or webpage/content that will automaticly show the file in pdf format rather than showing the page first.

allow for paid membership and admin can set up all aspects of the payment, to what the user can do and what they have in their menu.

Allow the admin to make some content only to paid subscribers.

make a extra button to allow the admin to save and publish content in one click.

allow for their to be a download component that is desinged for 1 or 2 files, that allows the admin to see how many times the file has been downloaded, and which users (if you have to be registerd to download) have downloaded the file, and or files.

allow their to be a e-mail button that will allow the admin to send an e-mail to the users that are shown from above searches.

their needs to be a live support instant messaging component or maybe a component that will show you details or automaticly send a e-mail to visitors of your site. i dont know how it works, but i vicited a site, never sent any details and they e-maild me about visiting their site.

I think thats my few sugestions for now. sorry about the spelling mistakes.

I think one database for multiple sites is a bad idea, in general, but multi-site admin (with seperate dbs) is one of the key features of 5.0 based on the new XML-RPC infrastructure. Check out the roadmap on mosdoc.mamboserver.com.

I agree that integrated and feature-rich forms would be a great idea. It's the one thing that keeps me from migrating a phpWebSite to Mambo. It's standard in phpWS, thus there is no need to purchase or even download a third-party component.

Unpublish them, that gives the same effect.

Can't we do this already? Or do you mean top level items?

Make a seperate section/category for frontpage stuff.

Agreed.

Um..no comment, I never use banners.

Already in (if I understand you correctly).

Not sure what you mean.

5.0 (this goes with custom user groups)

You can do this already (I think).

This is custom user groups again.

Hmmm...maybe. Personally I'd just add the publish button to the save/cancel buttons. Trivial hack.

All the stuff I labelled third party is stuff that doesn't belong in the core. The fact that Mambo doesn't have any of this stuff is one of the reasons it's so far ahead of the competition technically. Mambo is a CMS, if you use it as the base for a community site then that's cool, it can do it but the addons needed to do it do not belong in the core.

Think of the core as an API that allows you to build on the central features. All the database handling, display handling etc is there but you (or a third party developer) have to create the code to use that API.

Mambo is the framework on which other things can be built, the core team are responsible only for that framework. If they took on responsiblity for all the things you wanted as part of the core then we wouldn't see 5.0 this side of 2007 (I don't expect to see a stable release this year anyway).
