Development Black Hole

I'm thinkin I must be way the heck ahead of the development because so many of my requirements either cannot be done at this time or just never get a single response.

I'm a full-time 4GL software developer (for almost 15 years) and I wish I had the extra time to put into my php skills and doing development. I could just develop the components I need.

Does anyone else have this kind of problem? Sometimes it's beneficial to join forces.

I feel the same way you do...I have needs for specific components that seem to be very low on the list of new developments.

But don't give up hope! I'm working on a project that will help the community to get the components they need, and help the developers get paid for their services...with the end result of GPL components!

This should be ready to start publicising in around 3 weeks...or possible sooner. Be sure we will be making an announcement here and at all the usual hangouts. In the meantime...start fine tuning your wishlist.

I've been developing business applications for years... timeshare resort reservations, parks and recs, manufacturing systems, online trading applications. I'm doing medical application development now.

I'm torn between developing client websites, and putting more effort into honing my php/mambo skills.

There's just not enough hours in a day... and I don't even have kids!

I'm glad to know there's someone else out there in my boat. I try to maintain a positive attitude and I admire yours as well.

It's a carry over from a support forum I belong to for Serif Software. I actually set up a user site...but have not had the time to work on it much...need to set up some editors, publishers and a coadmin so it can run without me: http://roguesplus.net (template is in progress)

There are some exciting opportunities developing for the Mambo community that will help to match up solutions with those in need...a way for those with experience and knowhow with Mambo to put their knowledge to good use. Watch over the next 2 months and you will be amazed at how much things will be changing.

Yeah i have the problem to.. luckily im learning php in august hopefully by then i can write my own components

I had a similar problem on the official forums regarding questions about licensing, resulting in my being permenantly banned this morning without warning. I bet that won't cause the uproar that Arthur's censorship did.

Maybe it was my enquiries about potential forks. Who knows.

What I do know is that the core developers have their own agenda, and that is fair enough. IMHO the only way to get what you want into the core is to do a bit of hacking

Ah well. I've given them a chance and now it's time to move on.

I haven't quite given up on the software though, it has a lot of potential.

Still, I prefer sporks
