Default Install from Tar on shared server?

I have been trying to figure a way to unzip /untar the install packahge onto my shared linux host. I have tried installing MyShell.php, Net2FTP, phpshell , Putty and a few more. I can't get any to work.

Does anyone know how i can do this as I want to offer installs for clients but I don't want to sit around waiting for massive uploads.

Maybe there is a way of writing a self extracting php script. I figure it can't be impossible(just for me) as all the unzipping works file for me with templates etc.

Hope some one can figure this

Thanks all

1. Untar / unzip your component locally to a directory (example: c:\mambo\com_chat)

2. Create install dir (you can use existing directories as well) in your web server
(example: /root/setup/)

3. Copy local component dir (with all the files) to your server ( c:\mambo\com_chat -> (/root/setup/)

4. Go to Components > Install > Install from directory, type your server install directory (/root/setup/) and click Install

Should work.

Does you provider not provide some sort of webshell to do this with? Take a look in your control panel to be sure there is not one.

No-one can help you with puTTY, the options are self explanatory (there is only one if I recall correctly) and the only person who can provide the correct host/login details is your webhost. I suggest asking them.
