Default Upgrading instructions from V 1.0.3 to the latest

Guys

I need a step by step guidlines to upgrade my Mambo 5.5 Stable-1.0.3 to the very latest 1.0.6 (i think).

Do i need to back up all the data/tables or can i just over write files.

Also, will i loose all the code changes i did to make sure certain components like TFS for mambo and some other changes?

please tell me

PS : This is the best thing to happen in Mamboland!

You can just overwrite the files, but first read about the issues with the latest 1.0.6 before proceeding.
Also, if you have made any changes in the core files, you will need to do them again. It's a pain, so first save them somewhere and then reapply the changes to the new code.

No changes to the core files as such. But i did add few more lines of code for some modules. I also deleted some lines to remove the page hits display and added one line to make sure page titles are same as article title.

Will all these go, when i upgrade?

If the modules you changed are the ones that are supplied by the default installation, then yes, they will be overwritten.
You can save you changed files and then copy them over after the upgrade.

Let me try, but i would prefer having a back-up and them upgrading.

I've seen lots of tips on backing up your hacks, but what works for me, is any time I hack a core file, I save a copy in a folder on my hard drive called sitename/hacks. That way, all the hacked files are in one place for convenient reference.

What is a 'diff' and what is this 1.0.5 to 1.0.7 these guys are talking about. How to use it?
