help! Images disappeared

I don't even know if this is a Mambo issue or not. I converted my largest site into Mambo a few days ago. Today I was told that there are broken images all over the place in my e-cards section. I checked and the images seem to have disappeared.

All I get is the red X's.

If you click on the properties the url seems to be fine. I tripled checked and they files are there - nothing wrong with the URL.

Here's the strange thing. The url of the pictures say something like -
http://www.thecatsite.com/cat_cards/images/cats01tn.jpg

That image is there! I checked via my FTP account.

But when I try and view the image through the browser I get a Mambo page - that is my template with this for content -

Anyone has any idea how do I fix that? Do I have to revert to my old html pages?

Hi,

just some questions / ideas:

did you define a special error-404 page?

Are there differences (capitals?) in the image-filenames?

Are the rights to the Image-Dir set correct?

And as last try, delete your javascript code from your Template and try again.

This is very strange... no problem with the cases in the file name (capitals/small letters). The directory where the pictures are is not my regular image directory - it's a different one. Could that be it? The permissions on that one are the same as for my regular images directory. Could Mambo be allowing only pictures from the defined Images directory to be shown? In that case I guess I need to move the card images to there and update the code.

Hi,

as far as i can see, this should be no Mambo/Picture problem. The Pics are loaded in the Browser. The Browser loads, what he gets in the HTML-Code. And in your HTML-Code, the img-tags are correct. So it should be something with the files or the naming or the rights to your Image-Dir. Try setting them to "chmod 777".

What i still don't understand is, why a mambo-page shows up, when you type the url of the jpg.

BTW - it's funny, i thought i knew your site when i visited it for your problem - but i couldn't imagine why. I would never surf to a cat-centric site. Know i know. German c't has written about your web-tips-site. That's where i have been...

Exactly - and the only explanation I can find is that somehow Mambo, maybe the htaccsess file that's meant to make URL's SE friendly, is causing this.

I moved the images to the thecatsite.com/images directory and changed the URL's accordingly and now it's working fine.

http://www.thecatsite.com/cat_cards/images/cats01tn.jpg - gets you a Mambo page.

http://www.thecatsite.com/images/cards/cats01tn.jpg - works just fine.
