Default How do I display Typed Content(static text) on the Frontpage

Hi,

How would I change the front page content? Is there some sort of module that I can use? Or do I have to it by code?

Right now, it just has the website name and slogan, very boring!

Also, I am using the Teamwork template that comes with MOS, and I was wondering how I can get rid of 'Your Slogan Here'

Either have it say my slogan, or get rid of it.

Thanks, th3gh05t

1. Read the manual http://mosforge.net/frs/?group_id=17&release_id=29
2. in admin go to news items......look for the one you want to change
3. change the text into the story of your life or.........

go to news...........>new item.........>write new story (or publish chapter 1 from the manual)......> on the right you see an option asking show on frontpage > guess what? say yes! > save the item........> publish the item...............WOW!!!!!!

Next your question get rid of 'Your Slogan Here' :

buy or copy or download or whatever a good editor such as Macromedia Studio MX (which contains amogst many others "Dreamweaver Studio04) open your index.php from your template directory in your editor Find the specific text and either remove it or change it into your own slogan somehing like "Please read the Mambo-manual first!".........

Good luck and sorry for some cynical remarks but really, you do touch the very, very basics of working with Mambo so I do advise you to read the manual in your own interest before doing anything else. See also the intro of the moderator here????

Good luck

I don't want to have any news items.

Those are gay.

And when you post one, it makes the slogan go away.

I really don't see a big deal with updating the fron page with content..

Why must you have news?!?

RedCross Re: Changing the content that appears on the Frontpage?

As our good friend SpeedyG has already stated you should read the manual since these are the basics. But I will tell you how you can put something else instead of the news.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you login to the Admin area, you will see a dropdown menu saying Content --> Add/Edit Sections, on default you will see that there are The News (News) you can either rename that or delete it and create a new one.

You can add as many categories as you want to. Now that you have completed that step you may add News whichw ill be your content. Again: Content ---> News ---> News Items Now that you're there Click on New there on the top so that you can add new items. And of course give it a title add some content and check that its on the frontpage. Save it and Publish it and you have your content.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you dont want a date when you made it go on Site ---> Global Co
Configuration. You will see a Tab saying Content, it will say Hide Creation Date etc. Set that to NO and save it. Now if you want to organize your Frontpage at the top click on Components ---> Frontpage and then manage items and all the settings can be edited there.

It's as simple as that, I couldnt really told you an easier way MOS is really a great and easy to use portal. Sometimes just reading the manual doesnt either but hey what's mambers.com for?? RIGHT?

th3gh05t,
I reffer you to the Mambers.com General Rules & Etiquette, as well as the Guidelines for the 'How do I' forum, and ask that you consult them both before posting.

SpeedyG attempted to answer your question as best as he could given the limited amount of information you provided. If you want better answers, post better questions.

That said, what is it you are trying to accomplish with your web site? No, you do not have to have "news", but you have content, and many people call that content news. When you make a new content item, there is a check box that you select to have it appear on the front page. What more do you want to know?

Yes, it is really not a problem using mambo. I don't know how people still can have trouble with those things like content etc. And if you're really struggling there are so many great MOS support sites that its impossible to get confused
