pathway question - remove the last bit?

Hi, I’m looking for an answer that’s been bugging me for a while. Basically I would like to miss off the final section of the paththway (the article name) so that when you are reading the article you only see the links for the home and category section etc.

So for example, if you were reading and article called Tutorial 1 the pathway would normally show this..

Home > Category > Sub Category > Tutorial 1

What I would like is to miss of the end bit and only show this…

Home > Category > Subcategory

The reason why is that I don’t see the point of having the title of the article appear on the page twice, once in the pathway links and once as the actual title of article itself. Also articles with long title names make the pathway look really ugly!

I assume I just need to delete a section from the pathway.php file but I can’t seem to find which bit to remove.

Hope this makes sense and that somebody out there has the answer

Back up as I haven't fully tested this but it seems to do what you want.

Open pathway.php in you Mambo root folder.

At about row 233 find...

PHP Code:

  $newlink = "  $item->name";{

And replace with...

PHP Code:

  $newlink = "";{

That should do it.

Ohhh... that's close.

I did what you said and it does kinda work.

Now when yuo are in the article the pathway is exactly what i want (abnd all hyperlinked)...

home > news > category

Unfortunately now when you go to.... www.domian.com/news/

rather than the pathway showing...

home > news

it only shows...

home

ond not hyperlinked

so it just looks like some floating text.

Maybey tweaked a little this could be it?

Any further ideas as i'm finding it a little tricky to follow the code in pathway.php

Yes I noticed that... it will be the case for any first level paths as if your at news the until you go into a news item; news is the last level and hence it will not display (did that make any sense???

) Thats the trade off. The only thing I can suggest is that you adjust the code so that the pathway does not display unless your at a second level path.
