Default Front end registration -All Sections access?? Author access??

Hi all, Great forum!!!

Im working on a portal in which i want to let all registered user provide all the content for the whole site. After a few weeks and endless hours test driving every CMS i could find, i finally found MAMBO.

I've seen how ease to use and set up is Mambo and soon i found out that registered frontend users only have permitions to submit news in the news section that is automatically set up when Mambo is installed. That is, when submiting a news item, only categories from within news section are available.

I also noticied that users self registration sets them up as "registered users" and not "author users". so they cant submit news items until the administrator changes the group access to "author".

So, here are my question:
1- Can registered users have all sections access? (for news submition, that is!)
2- Can users register themselves as "author"?

If the above is possible, would someone be kind enough to show me how i can do it?

Hope im explaning my question clearly enough
Hope someone can help!
Thanks in advanced!

By the way, im just a designer, no php or any other programing skill background on my toolbox

Well, i think i found the answer to one of my question right here in this forum:
"2- Can users register them selves as "author"?"

I found this thread:
To hack this, in /components/com_registration/registration.php find Code:
$row->gid = $acl->get_group_id('Registered','ARO');

and replace with Code:
$row->gid = $acl->get_group_id('Author','ARO');

I havent tried it yet, but i will in about an hour and ill post back the result

I found a work arround for this one too, thanks to Jason (www.jasonmurphy.net) who has develop an addon called "Submit Content Link" that lets you add other links to submit to other sections, like the "Submit News" link in the UserMenu.

Hope this is info is usefull for some new mambo user that come along
