Default Show Categories on Homepage Layout

Hi everyone,

First, the disclaimer...I'm somewhat the newbie.

That said, I've searched the forums and the documentation for the following support, but haven't found the answer yet.

I have multiple sections on our site, one for each of the quarterly issues of our newmagazine. Within each section (or magazine issue), there are three categories, which are related to the different kinds of stories in our magazine (i.e. feature stories, news, etc).

I'm trying to create the layout for the homepage, I want to show the following:

- the three categories for our latest issue
- for each category, show the intro to the first story, then list just the headling links to the next 5 stories

So, our center column would look something like this:

=======================
First Category

First story headline
Story text.....

Second story headline link
Third story headline link
Fourth story headline link
Fifth story headline link
=======================
=======================
Second Category

First story headline
Story text.....

Second story headline link
Third story headline link
Fourth story headline link
Fifth story headline link
=======================
=======================
Third Category

First story headline
Story text.....

Second story headline link
Third story headline link
Fourth story headline link
Fifth story headline link
=======================

If this is already embedded in the admin section, just let me know, and I'll keep digging. My hours of research, however, has left me dumbfounded on the issue. However, if this is something we need to create in our HTML layout design, we could really use some tips! =)

Alright, thank you all in advance. I'm not looking for someone to do my work for me, but just looking for any advice or pointers. =)

Best,
Ryan

1. I would use the Latest News module, it's customizable to the point that I *believe* you can do all this, or at least tweak it a little. Pick it up at mamboportal.com

2. Use a mambot to allow you to put the module into a content item to display it as a page instead of a module. Pick it up at mamboportal.com
3. "if this is something we need to create in our HTML layout design" - I'm not sure what you mean here - what you want is mostly php.

Good luck!

Yes this can be done with the Display News modules:

but you will also need to create multiple copies of them:
