Question Require people to give email before getting content

Hello, I am currently putting together a website for marketing a book. Several sample chapters will be available for download, but I'd like to require people to sign up their email address for the emailing list prior to letting them get to the chapter download pages. Does anyone have any experience with this or have a rough idea of how this can be accomplished? I'd rather not email people the link to download the chapters, I'd rather just collect the email address and redirect them to do the download page. An example of this is in use at: http://www.itprosuccess.com/ I want to do something similar.

Why don't you use the access level of content items. So the people have to register on your site to see the content.
When they have registered you have also the e-mail adress and isn't this what you wanted ?

Yeah good idea, for some reason I didn't stop to think that I can set it up so they can just give their name, email, and password and just signup like that wihtout having to fill any long membership forms (what I tend to think of when creating a 'user account')

One of the goals, is to not make the "membership" signup a big deal. Right now, because a certain part of the website is password protected, if people who have not registered try to go to it, they get a page that says 'You are not authorized to view this resource. You need to login.' Is there any way, instead of displaying this message to offer them a chance to sign up or login? I don't want to have the login box anywhere else on my site except for this specific page.

So is anyone doing this? I've noticed some people use a login module that displays on the same page as the private content, but I would rather immediately let people sign up instead of telling them to log in.
