Default AkoGallery thumbnail quality?

I hope this is the right place to ask, as I went to mamboportal forum and was directed here :-0

I have successfully installed AkoGallery, and have been running it fine (locally).

But when I upload pictures, and get the automatic creation of thumbnails going, the thumbnail quality is really poor. colours wash out, details get lost.

I tried increasing the quality in the settings from the default 75 to 100, then 200, but that doesn't work.

I'm using GD Lib.

Any thoughts on how to fix it? This *is* mission critical for me.

Thanks

No, I had selected just GD Lib, not GD2.

But it's not working anyway. This is the result of a thumbnail with GD2, it's not supposed to be blue like this :-9
