Default Several problems with mambo *please help*

Hi!

I have several problems with mambo. Not to bore you:
  1. I have problem with installing anything: components/modules/mambots. I get the same message when I try to upload&install zip files:
ERROR: Could not find an XML setup file in the package.
    Installation file not found:
    /home/students/d129685/public_html/media/install_422f8bd5bfc87/
I tried installing one WYSIWYG editor and zoom gallery
  2. I was editing mambo, that is adidng Newsflash and after that top menu changed from the usual horizontal layout to vertical one. I tried to switch topmenu module to be horizontal or flat like but it didnt work...
  3. I want to have different news sections (that is >funny news< where I will add funny stuff, and sort of regular news). I know you can link from any menu to specific news category but then you get this awful list with filters next/previous buttons and I want it to look more like Home page.

Im looking forward to hearing from you and thx in advance for taking Your time to read it and to answer my questions

-Adam

Sounds like you're trying to install with versions that aren't compatable. Check to see if what you're installing will work for your Mambo version.

Have you tried a Global check-in after editing?

You can create as many new news categories as you need. When you create new news content, you can then choose which category to assign it to from the category drop-down.

Im trying to install the latest Zoom, which SHOULD work with Mambo 4.5.x, and WYSWIWYG which should be also compatible...

Yes, the menu changes but not to horizontal, flat looking one. When I choose vertical menu style it is like the left menu, when it is horizontal it is like vertical with "|"'s between menuitems(vertically between), and when it's flat looking it's vertical with additional dots to the left of each menu item. I think those "|"'s are meant to be horizontal separators but somewhow menu items are not algined horizontally...

Here's the code for the table that I get from server:

<table width="100%" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="1"><tr><td nowrap="nowrap"><span class="mainlevel"> | </span><a href="index.php?option=com_contact&amp;Itemid=3" class="mainlevel" >Kontakt</a><span class="mainlevel"> | </span><a href="index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=sectio n&amp;id=1&amp;Itemid=2" class="mainlevel" >Niusy</a><span class="mainlevel"> | </span><a href="index.php" class="mainlevel" >Główna</a><span class="mainlevel"> | </span></td></tr></table>

I'm not sure why its not aligned properly...

I know but I've seen it on some sites, that when you go to the news category you have a header, where you can apply a filter, and lower you have list of all news, and in foot there are buttons first/prev/next/last or sth like that, it looks a bit too messy for me. I would also like it to display at least a few of the first messages.

Can I also make it, that on front page more than 3 first messages are displayed ( I mean their content).

Thx in advance for all replies, Im really confused with all this mambo and getting tired with making it work...

They don't sound like bugs... just mis-configurations.

For your menu issue, have you tried switching to another untouched template? Remember that some templates require changes to the css suffix for the module to match the design as intended. Look in your css file for the lines that describe ".mainlevel" and see what could be causing the problem. If you don't have a css editor, I would suggest TopStyle Lite. It's free (no nag), and it's visual. Also get the "Edit CSS" plugin for FireFox. Also free, and you can see the changes in real time, editing a temporary file - which you can save and paste later (read the docs for details).

I don't have any other answer on the XML question... sorry

And the frontpage item list can be changed from the backend... Menu Manager > Main Menu > Home > Parameters.
