Default I need to make my configuration.php and session save path /tmp to writeable

I need to make my configuration.php and session save path /tmp to writeable currently it is unwriteable and they are the only two things that are keeping me from installing mambo onto my server. If anyone could please give me some detail help because i am very new at this.

Hi,

Most FTP clients also WinSCP, can set directory or file permissions, usually a right-click > properties. Otherwise if you have shell access (linux) cd to the parent directory then chmod 777 (filename) should do it. If changing permissions on a directory recursively then chmod -R (dirname).

See I did that but it said it was still inwritable but i think it was writable so i went ahead and installed mambo. Everything worked fine intill i go to template manager and click on site templates and get this error message

Warning: Unterminated comment starting line 57 in /home/httpd/vhosts/mifwb.com/httpdocs/includes/domit/xml_domit_nodemaps.php on line 57

Parse error: parse error, expecting `T_OLD_FUNCTION' or `T_FUNCTION' or `T_VAR' or `'}'' in /home/httpd/vhosts/mifwb.com/httpdocs/includes/domit/xml_domit_nodemaps.php on line 57

Fatal error: Cannot instantiate non-existent class: domit_nodelist in /home/httpd/vhosts/mifwb.com/httpdocs/includes/domit/xml_domit_getelementsbypath.php on line 48

What does this mean??? and can i fix it with out uninstalling mambo or do i have to total remove mambo from my server and start all over?
