Front end editing - How?

Sorry guys - Im on a run of dumb questions.....

What the deal with front end editing? Just uploaded a site and when I view it using Safari on Mac I get the front end edit. Looking at it with Firefox(Mac) I dont get the edit options and using Explorer (on PC) I dont get it as well.

Why only Safari and how do I get it working across the board?

LOGIN as Administrator and click on the icon next to the item title.

I think you are not logged in as admin in the front end. else you can see edit only if you are writer of that content, or you have editing rights.
