Never mind me - I have worked it out.

Sorry for annoying people.

Does anyone have gallery 2.0 alpha running in mambo yet? It's pretty awesome and I'd like to try and get it integrated

Default Fresh install, same path problems

Hi Guys.

After initially starting this thread I now experience the same problem as many of you have when I am doing this fresh install with Gallery 1.44 and Mambo 4.5.1a

Mambo install went fine (again)
Gallery install went fine (again)
When I want to install it as a component, and I need to give the directory from which to install (it is /export/home/huibers/public_html/components/com_gallery/contrib/mambo, this is where the needed gallery.xml file resides) it gives me errors, saying "Installation file not found:
/export/home/huibers/public_html/components/com_gallery/contrib/mambo/ "

weird!

I tried Kai's zip file (post #5 in this thread), but this won't work as I've installed gallery into the same directory Kai's zip file tries to install itself in.

So now I'm stuck too, like others here. Any suggestions anyone?

Thanks,
denniz

Hi,

did you install the zip file as a Component to your Mambo (upload package file)?

If you want to install from directory, download the 1.5-cvs version from Gallery and overwrite your Gallery 1.4.4 contrib/mambo directory with the new files from the 1.5-cvs.

Hope this helps

Hi Kai.

I downloaded gallery 1.44 and installed it separately. Then I tried two things:
1 install according gallery/contrib/mambo/readme.txt
2 install with gallery.zip which I found in post #5 of this thread

The problem now seems to be the table(s?) in the database, because when I tried option 2 it gave me an error (something about there was already a component gallery installed).

I can't access my database at the mo (don't know why (yet)).
I'm really stuck now.

But basically you say: leave the gallery installed as is. Just copy over the contents from gallery 1.5-cvs gallery/contrib/mambo and reinstall as a component from the back-end?

denniz

PS: I'm not familiar working with CVS, is there a simpler way to get the files needed?

Yes, you need only the new XML, but I think you have to edit your database and delete the the old component manually.
Are you using the standard database prefix mos_ ? The prefix mos_ is hardcoded in the component, see here.

Kai,

Thanks. The real problem is now: I can't access the database at the moment. The ISP somehow screwed up access to mysql, so I'll have to wait for them to fix it.

However, I'm setting up another site now, where I'll be testing the new XML. Hope it works. Will report on the progress.

---- edit: Just to avoid confusion, I have made a completely new mambo environment: new server, new location, new database, new everything ----

OK, I've tried and tested. Here are the results from the jury.

Clean install of Mambo 4.5.1a (fine)
Clean install of gallery 1.44 (fine)
Clean configuration of gallery (fine, gallery works fine stand alone)
replaced gallery.xml by the one linked to above (fine)
tried to add gallery as a component (FAIL)

Again the error "installation file not found":
/var/www/html/gallery/contrib/mambo/
I am sure it is the right path, I built the server myself.

I also checked the database, I couldn't find any entries from gallery in it, so it hasn't changed anything yet. So what could be wrong here?

I feel really stuck now. Should I have replaced the gallery.xml file before configuring gallery? This doesn't make sense (I think it should get read only when mambo tries to install a new component) but I'm getting a bit desperate... Any ideas anyone? I'm willing to try!

Hi,

have you also tried to install the zip-package from the Gallery component with "Upload Package File" ?

Kai,

I have tried to install the component part as a component. Succesfully!
However, I am not sure if this will work for some of the production sites I have going. So I will report back on this issue once I have shell access again to mysql to delete the appropriate tables in the databases.

Tonight I will be trying to get the random picture module going.

Will report back on the issues.
Once completed, tried and tested positively, I will write a small manual how to install gallery (and the module) for other people who might run into the same problems.
