his phpWebSite for the club: www.clubedsf.org/sc2

any ideas why mambo is better? i havent used phpWebSite so i wouldnt know anything about it. but it looks very similiar to mambo

THe difference is not in the layout. You can create any layuout you want. If you want Mambo to compare to any other CMS you should focus on the backend and available modules and components.
In my opinion Mambo will come out on top, because of it's easy to use backend. The versatile and clear way of dealing with different types of content makes it a very complete product.

Good luck,

Ronald

you're not referring to this one i hope -- http://www.phpwcms.de/ coz this one seems pretty nifty when it comes to templating et all.. don't know what the backend is like though i'm tempted to try it out

Mambo is superior to other cms because of how it is build. While most cms focus on adding extra functionality in the cms itself; Mambo has created build in systems which makes it extremely handy for developers. So there are lot's of classes which a developer can use to create components and modules. That's why the amount of mambo software is growing so fast.

But also the install system for the administration is extremely powerful. Just some clicks and a component and/or module is installed.

When Mambo 5 will be released it will even use XML/RPC to distribute content to several sites at once. Imaging you have 3 sites with each a different focus but you want to display some info on all 3. It will be possible!

And last but not least: mambots! Mambots are very small programs which alters the way your sections work. So they can display images, thumbnails, links, whatever in your articles just by using a keyword like {mosimage}.

And I am sure I have forgotten lots of other good points

opsourcecms is a very good site ... many cms systems are missing there but it gives a good overview to you.

but when a look at the other cms i always think that mambo is much better than all of these other.

TerryG is an unknown quantity at this point
Default Re: mambo vs. phpWebSite CMS

I have been using phpWebSite for six months or so and built around six sites.

Thank god I discovered Mambo. At first I was confused because the control panel is so different. (I couldn't figure out how to add a new typed content page. It really isn't obvious is it?)

Mambo has hundreds of professional looking templates. phpWebsite has about six, all of which look like they were made by and for kindergarten kids.
phpWebSite does not have a wysiwyg editor built in. Mambo has three available.

The Mambo team and users appear to be turning out a steady stream of components, mods and templates of high quality.

Yes the "nukes" probably have more of everything but I am looking for a program that the average end user can actually USE without a year's training and a degree in computer science.
Mambo is that program.

This is one of the most important issues! Every took a look at typo3? It is really powerfull, but you need 1 year of study to learn how to install it and a second year to set up your content.

Mambo is pure simplicity when it comes to these points. Installation is done in 5 minutes and your site is customized in a few days only.

The same applies to the technical background of these systems. While you have to study a lot material if you want to code for type3, you can nearly copy and paste your code with Mambo.

Under a little guidance even an unskilled developer can set up his first component in a day!

hey I resemble that comment.

Laughing here, yes all that is true.

I guess that is why I love Mambo, it allows the geek/designer in my come out and play.

Yet, many people won't even need to make their own components, because skilled coders are constantly releasing new and improved components.

(Side note: Is that your baby Arthur? How cute!)
