Default Mambo, Invision, seperate site with same login

Hello.

I've been running Mambo Open Source 4.5 (1.0.7) with Simpleboard as a forum for my members. I also have a vanilla install of Invision Power Board set up so that when I take MOS offline for maintenance, my users still have a place to gather and talk. I want to replace simpleboard with Invision in the future.

What I would like to do is:

1.) when a user registers at my Mambo site, that info is automatically passed to Invision and an account is set up there as well.

2.) when a user logs into Mambo, they are also logged into Invision.

3.) users would not be able to register in the Invision board, only from mambo.

The two systems would remain seperate in different databases, with different access permissions on each. The only thing that would be shared is the login information. I've been searching for an answer to this for ages, and it doesn't seem like anyone has a solution that just does the above without major work.

Thank you!

Would it matter if Invision is not open source? I mean, all it's doing is forming SQL queries that would insert required info into Invision's database for the users, and then forming a cookie that looks like the "remember me" cookie from Invision.

I don't think a person would have to edit Invision's source code to do it. Of course, I know nothing about php so I don't know if that statement is even remotely true.

I don't want any integration further than the auto-user creation and auto-login.

I've been reading many threads about this on many sites, and they all say the same thing: It's not possible, YET. I'm assuming this means this type of thing will be possible in the future. Most of what I have read pertains to having more than one Mambo site with common logins, with a few hints of including support for 3rd party software.

Would be a cool option, regardless.

i would like this too.. but i use www.punBB.org
its open source so i hope it can be done. the forums are extreamly fast and very professional. it lacks in some features but what it lacks it can be hacked to add additional features.

How are you going to know when a new user registered via Invision or an existing user changed has password via Invision?
