Thumbs down community divided

I have recently started to use mambo as my choice for cms due to its neat code and nice user interface.
For all its problems PostNuke however was a great portal system - yes it had its problems and yes it has been hacked to bits - but it works and there is a massive user community willing to jump in there and help.

To my point: recently all these arguements within the community seem to show that mambo - as great as it is can not last - postnuke community at least pulls together and has the maturity to deal with conflicts with level heads.

The thought that a post like this may get me on someones bad books and then banned from the community is a sad thought.

the nukes have had more dramas than mambo even...hence all the nuke flavors...

wherever you go, there you are...

conflicts are a part of life, can be quite healthy as part of normal growing process if dealt with positively.

Chat Re: community divided

It's true there's been a few problems in the last months. This is also due to the big growing mambo had in that same months. As community is growing problems will occur, that's not a big deal and as stated in other thread this is only ONE site not the COMMUNITY. This is a great project but only one person managing is pretty hard. The official forums exist also and that can be called the COMMUNITY, sites like this one enrichs the community in is whole.

I hear your point about Postnuke, phpNuke etc - I guess like a lot of people I have just joined the community at a teething time.

Yep. You even said it yourself...Mambo does not yet have the maturity as it is still so young. Just watch how much things still change even more over the next few months. When the dust settles...you will only be able to say...Wow!

Just want to assure you and everyone else have nothing to worry about with Mambo.

True there has been a disagreement between members in the community, but this does not mean the community is in trouble. Nor has this current disagreement involved or affected any of the core developers of mambo.
All thats happened is a disagreement between certain individuals within the community.

In any community disagreements and conflict will occur.
In fact conflict is an integral part of any healthy community, and often such events are a catalyst for pause and self-reflection, but also growth and development.

All of us involved were aware of the ramifications of our decisions and as much as it pained all of us to see and be involved in such conflict sometimes you have to agree to disagree and go your seperate ways.

But that is all in the past now and i'm sure it will quickly forgotten, without even a footnote in the history books of MOS. For as it was rightly pointed out, this is only one site, in a disagreement that involved only a few individuals.

The community exists in you who have chosen and continue to use Mambo.
The community exists in you who contribute to Mambo in your own special individual ways.
THe community exists in you who spread the word about Mambo.
The community exists in you who care enough to wonder at the health of the community.
The community is you, the people...it does not lie in a single website, or a single person.

Be assured the community is healthy, growing and doing well...because after all the community is you

Stingrey, i can't agree more, and hopefully something good will come out of this for both sides and for the benefit of the community as a whole.

no to dis any of you 'ex mods' , but when are you guys gonna have another pow wow and elect to drop the EX MOD' by choice in your sigs?

ok it makes a statement..but what staement really? You are advertising that there is conflict within the community...fine, many prople already know that..but what about the folks who are just wandering by today or tommorw...? Does that do anything positive for their impression of Mambo open Source?

just questioning the goals of the signature...

if I quit working as a worker at McDonald's because I didn't agree with the boss...I wouldn't be walking around town with a sign or a t shirt that said ' EX-BURGER MAKER' by choice...

lol

but..thats just me...

love you,
john

You make a good point, the statement has been made, people are aware and it's time to move on. In fact, I had already changed my sig before I read this.

(Also, I'm not sure there NEEDS to be two threads on this. Where is that merge threads button when you need it...)
