Arrow Classifieds ads with mambo

I noticed there is only 1 classifieds component for mambo. Does anyone know what else will work and would be better then what is already available.

Actually there are this two components for classifieds as far as I know (I've attached the files)

Mambads is not developped anymore as far as I know and apparently a bit tricky to install, but looks quite nice from the front end if you don't have too many categories to handle.

Adz is easier to install and can handle more categories and sub-categories, runs under 4.5.1a (at least on my test server). It's a good start, but looks far from finished.

You may also look into
estateagent (which is free, runs under 4.5.1a with their patch and the file you find here http://mambers.com/showthread.php?t=...t=ZOOM+Gallery) or mosets which has more features, is easier configurable (even for cars if you want) but is not free.

You may be also interested in jobline, which you can find at http://mamboforge.net for jobs.

If you come across anything else, let me know, since I'm currently building a classified website and I'm not happy what's available so far. Will probably go for a custimized solution.

Regards

I'm interested in paying someone to add a nice classified script to my mambo site. I would need some minor changes to the script. Please let me know your rates.

Hi a1nerd,

which component you are looking at and what would you like to have changed, maybe we can team-up and split the costs. I would have a developer who would be able to do it at a reasonable rate. Maybe we continue this disucssion via private messages.

Another option is LineAds - http://mamboforge.net/projects/las/

I'm currently using Mambads on a 4.5.1.0.9 site. With some tweaking it works okay (picture upload is still a problem), but the lack of a good alternative is one of the main reasons I haven't yet upgraded to 4.5.1a.

Considering the number of posts on this topic, I must admit to being surprised that nobody has yet developed a 'killer' classifieds solution for Mambo. Sadly I'm no coder, but Mambads certainly seems to have the potential to be developed into something that would be more than capable of doing the job. It's just such a shame that the original developer is no longer working on it.

i Downloaded mambads and i couldnt get it to work for some reason. Posting pictures is a must. I would like to have mambads and i would need the picture thing fixed.

Could you give me your sites addi the one that has the mambads script on it. And can you tell me how to make it live on my site. I'm using 4.5 not 4.5.1

I just downloaded the adz module and it lets me edit everything from the front end but it doesnt go live on the site. There is no publish option to publish the classifieds section.

How far do you get? Does it install okay? What errors are you getting?

You can view Mambads in operation on my site at www.lenkiewicz.org (under 'Free Services').

I just found out there is not interface designed for it.

Can someone make it work with an interface on my site? I will pay you.

Hey Folks,
I also need a good classifieds component. I installed Mambads and sure enough had problems getting the images to upload and show. The component worked fine if I did not attempt to upload an image when posting a new ad. When I included an image with the new ad post I would get the "bcdiv" error. I started poking around the component files and eventually with some hacking managed to get everything apparently working OK.

Here is what I did:
1. Installed component
2. Created a folder called "mambads" in mambo/uploadfiles/ and CHMOD to 777.
(This folder is a place for Mambads to store images.
3. Added the absolute path and the URL to the folder created above to lines 14 and 15 in mambads.php.
4. Changed line 4 in save.php to "$query1 = "UPDATE ".$mosConfig_dbprefix."ca_data SET caname='$caname', castr='$castr', cazip='$cazip', cacity='$cacity', caland='$caland', catel='$catel', camail='$camail', caurl='$caurl', cacat='$cacat', casb='$casb', catitl='$catitl', cadesc='$cadesc', caprize='$caprize', capic1='$capic1', capic2='$capic2' WHERE caid=$caid";"
5. Changed line 10 in save.php to: $usr_newpicname = time();
(This gives the uploaded image a name using the php call for the Unix timestamp. I don't know if the call is the same on non-Unix systems!)
6. Posted an ad with an image and all worked OK.

So, unless I discover errors or problems later on, this fix seems to be working for now.
Thanks to whoever posted the item about my step #4 above. I saw that on the forum somewhere and it helped me find a solution.

I hope this helps someone else.
-John

The Mosets component is top notch. It is targeted towards either cars or real estate, but could easily be used for anything. I paid $129 US dollars and have a few more sites that I am doing that I will pay for it again to use on those sites. The support is excellent, and every question or problem I had was solved either within the day or the next day. File uploads works great and you can customize the fields to whatever you want.

Well done!
