Question creating an online mall

i'm brand new to mambo, and thought i'd ask here if what i'm thinking is possible...i think it will work, but i'm not sure.

what i want to do is use mambo as an interactive subsection of my site...but i want sections of it to be noneditable. am i correct that if i don't want users to edit a section that i just don't add it to the user menu?

also, what i'm trying to create is a local business online mall...since my site is a local family info site, i want a place for businesses to be able to pay me to add them to an online mall where users can get information about their business, including location, hours, directions, contact info, what they offer, etc...i would also like to have online coupons be a part of the business package and have a partner that will create the graphics for that...and then the users will be able to click on coupons and print them and bring them into the businesses to use them. most of my businesses i would be including in this directory would have little or no online presence...although i do offer web packages and am hoping to get more local businesses online through me. even if its just info, not actual shopping.

so my question is...is this doable? i think it is, but i would like to hear from those more experienced than me whether it is or not and what would be the best way to go about this? i figure i will add content and name it the fresno family mall, then categories for the different local businesses like web/graphic design, toys, clothing, etc...then the specific business info in the categories, with phone numbers, addresses, etc...for the coupons, i'm thinking to have clickable links to open a new window for that, where they can print...i can just put the coupons on my site or is there a good way to do this in mambo? is there a module that would help me with all this? i'm browsing all the things available and am very pleased with mambo so far...just would like some guidance as to how to best go about what i want to do.

thankyou for your time!

Hello

Good luck with your mambo site; I have a feeling that you'll end up "Mamboising" the whole site as you get to know what it can do...

The user menu will allow users to find an item, not to edit it. There are three access levels for content items; you don't actually need to assign editing permissions to anybody except yourself though. Users will not be able to edit a section unless you specifically set them as Author anyway

(is this what you mean? )

With regard to payments for services like the ones you're talking about, I'm not sure that exactly what you want exists. Phpshop (http://www.mamboportal.com/index.php...&filecatid=485) has payment processing abilities and maybe you could make this work for you?

thanks, i'm looking into getting a directory component...or else the content section might work just fine for my purposes.

and i am also looking into phpshop...see if that might help as well. or i am thinking that i might be able to just plug in paypal links?

can you plug in html on this program? i would think so, but i'm not sure. if not, i suppose i can just insert a link to a page on my main site and have them pay through there.

i was just wondering if anyone had any other ideas for me? since i am so new to mambo, there may very well be modules or components out there that would work perfectly for my purposes that i'm not aware of. my eyes cross going through all the lists of possible downloads, lol! i don't know what they all do.

does anybody else here use mambo for a paid directory?
