Default Events component blues.

I a newbie to CMS and Mambo, wanting to try it out for art site. I already use Gallery and have been following the integration but have a more immediate problem.

Trying out 4.5 1.0.7 (new install), and added events component. Install went OK, but 2 events components show up in admin>components.

So I delete one which went OK, select the other to delete (figuring to start clean), but mambo sez "unable to delete events, file not found". Tried events>edit config - file not found.

Start up cpanel for my site, nav to components dir - no events shown. So I reboot my local computer, relogin and events still listed (no content, just the 3 links). Still can't delete it!

Still wanting Events I re-upload the component, it installs OK, I go to edit the email and setup some categories - 2 components>events listed again!

So I pick one of them, setup as per install instructions, add some events and it seems to be working, but why are there 2 events components listed in admin and why can't the bogus one be scrapped?

Thnx to all who reply,
Jack

Admin Backend -> removing multiple listings of a component

The easiest way to remove the entries is via PhpMyAdmin, you should have access to this via your hosting package (If you are on a hosted package).

For components:
Go to the 'mos_components' table and browse, you will now see a list of installed components (including doubles).
Select the offending entry and delete, make a note of it's ID number, and repeat this process for any entries with 'parent' equal to the ID of the first entry you deleted. This then deletes all child menu items.

For Modules:
Go to the 'mos_modules' table, browse select double entry and delete.

Just remember, that it is ALWAYS smart to do a backup of your database before you change it directly like this!
