Default Problems w/ upload pics

I am using mambo 4.5.2 and i have been having trouble uploading pics to my admin session. When i upload the pic it shows in my media manager as just an empty with a red X thru it. The pics arent too big, roughly 23kb - 100kb. Does anyone have any ideas?

Also, i havent installed the patch yet, i was wondering how to go about that as well.

Thanks all,
JC

its some kind of explorer.... (only available for admins or superadmins, can't remeber)
you can edit files via the backend.... also upload files, download them as well, and zip a directory and such things.....
it's a component... you can install it and unistall it whenever you want...

give it a try

You can try to upload it manually (ftp)

If you are trying to do, upload the media in ../images/stories/
After that you may be able to use them.

What i am also confused about is, can i use the mambo admin / media manager only to upload pics, or do i need to also FTP the files to a folder on my FTP site? I have tried doing both but neither work, maybe i am missing a step.
