Default Component Install Fail

Hi Mambers,

I have just done an install, which so far seems fantastic.

I am using 4.5.1-RC3.
I have PHP Safe mode ON (unfortunately i have no control over this parameter as i am in web hosting.)
I am able to upload images to the media manager after doing a chmod 777 in images/stories.

On installing a component (i've tried akobook, phpshop and akocomment) i get errors.

Using the "Upload Package File" option i get:
Upload component - Upload Failed
ERROR: Could not find an XML setup file in the package.
[ Quit Installer ]
Upload component - Failed
Installation file not found:
/home/dh2526/cms/media/install_4146fa967a54e/
[ Quit Installer ]

Using the "Install from directory" option i get:
Warning: copy(): SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is 12206 is not allowed to access /home/dh2526/cms/components/com_akobook owned by uid 65534 in /home/dh2526/cms/administrator/components/com_installer/installer.class.php on line 341
Warning: copy(/home/dh2526/cms/components/com_akobook/akobook.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/dh2526/cms/administrator/components/com_installer/installer.class.php on line 341
Upload new component - Error
Failed to copy file: /home/dh2526/tmp/com_akobook33/akobook/akobook.php to /home/dh2526/cms/components/com_akobook/akobook.php
[ Quit Installer ]

I have tried to install the safe mode patch mos45safemodepatch134.zip but am not sure it has take effect. The readme says that i would be overwriting some files but all files in the patch are new, ie were not previously there in my mambo 4.5.1 folders.
In fact i do not get the additional ftp form in the install screen.

I have also tried to install modules and templates with no success.

What are my options to solve the problem?

Thanks in advance.
Svapna

Hi there,

One fundamental question; which module or component are you trying to install, not all older components and modules integrate peacefully with RC3.

Regarding your safemode, you can control that via your .htaccess file, just enter a line like this:
php_value safe_mode=Off

PLEASE do not install the safemode patch into RC3 it will wreck it. RC3 is just fine as it comes, I have it running on my site now since it's release and I only needed a little tweaking on the database to upgrade from RC2.

Thanks Elli for the reply.

I have tried the following, taking care that i picked them from the 4.5.1 section:
AkoBook 3.3
http://www.mamboportal.com/index.php...&filecatid=950
Mambo phpShop
http://www.mamboportal.com/index.php...filecatid=1054
Javabean Admin (Admin Template)
http://www.mamboportal.com/index.php...&filecatid=946

Also for some reason, putting the .htaccess file in the root folder gives the result that the server gives a "500 Internal Server Error"!
This is because i have shared hosting and the server settings dont allow me to change php settings.

Is there any way i can manually install the modules?

I think you should wait until there is a safe mode patch available for 4.5.1. Until that time comes use 4.5 Stable 1.09 and install the safe-mode patch....

good luck
