Default How to make index.php show in browser address on site load?

Hi All,

I have what may seem a strange request....

I want my site to show index.php in the browser, so instead of just http://gozo.ws showing on the site load I would like somehow for it to show http://gozo.ws/index.php or anything .php for that matter.

I am currently doing so via a redirect from an index.html but this is not ideal for search engines.

I have tried various ideas using htaccess & the Alias Manager component but haven't had any joy.

Hopefully someone on these forums will have a better idea?

The reason for my strange request is that for some unknown reason my google ads only pick up the correct category if my pages are .php....

Thanks in advance for any help,

Best regards,

Michael

i love the site, what happens if you take out the index.html ? the webserver should default to the index.php file

Hi,

Thanks for the compliment

Yes the site defaults to index.php but just shows http://gozo.ws in the address bar and my google ads change.

If I put the full path in my browser - http://gozo.ws/index.php then the ads become correctly targeted again.....a bit of a mystery.

Best regards,

Michael

i wonder if this would work

go into your global config and set your site up to http://gozo.ws/index.php instead of just http://gozo.ws, or maybe you need to have your site be http://www.gozo.ws

its a thought

or can you setup redirection through your webhost? or does redirection only work with folders (i may be wrong with this, i'm only just figuring out re-direction with my webhost)

Thanks for the reply, I did in fact already try both of those ideas but unfortunately they didn't work either.

Hi,

I haven't been able to find an answer on this, but as far as I know I haven't got the Direct access not allowed problem on my search engine listings that you have.

I am currently using an index.html with a redirect to get around my problem.

So far it doesn't seem to be adversely affecting the search engines indexing my site...

Regards,

Michael

Thanks for the reply,

Unfortunately I already have all my pages set up and running with Alias Manager and I can't therefore install SEF404 as they both use the same directory, com_sef.

Best regards,

Michael
