Default Suggestions -- authors & editors

My website is a webzine. I have a staff of writers and editors. One thing I would like to use Mambo for is streamlining the process of getting articles from the author to the editor and onto the site.

So I need to give my site the following functionality:

-- Public users (registered or not) cannot post articles
-- Authors can post, but can't access administrative functions. All of the parameters for their posts should be locked to default settings.
-- Editors can post, and can access other posted articles for the purpose of editing and approving. No article should appear on the public front end until an editor approves it.
-- Me, who can do everything.

Ideally, I would like to have accomplish all of this through the front end if possible, but if they have to go in through the back, I guess that's okay.

So, to sum up, here's what I'd ultimately like to have on my site:

1. Author selects "Add Article" from Staff menu. Writes article and saves it.
2. Editor receives e-mail (automated if possible, but I'm not looking for miracles) that there's an article needing approval. He selects "Edit Article" from the Staff Menu and gets a list of all articles that HAVE NOT been approved yet--naturally, I'd rather filter out the stuff that's already available for public viewing.
3. Editor reviews the article, makes edits if necessary, sets the appropriate parameters to make the article public, and saves it.
4. Article appears on the site.

Any suggestions on how to approach this? Is there a component available that I should look into? This is a pretty significant reason for switching my website to a CMS, so I hope there's a way to do it, even if it takes awhile to set up.

Thanks in advance for the ideas,
Dave...

setup your user accounts with specific rights, then form the usermenu with the certain attributes you're specifying.

For instance. add "Add Articles" to the user menu, but only have the Author be able to post, Just go into the user manager and look it up, its all in there. everything you explained. Just setup their permissions and you should be all set.

Let me know if you need more clarification.

I've played with the different user setups. If I set up a user as "Author", though, that person is able to post directly to the site without needing approval from the editor. I don't want that. If I lower the authorization to "Public" for all of my writers, though, I won't be able to have normal registered users.

Is there a way to set rights for each account other than to label them by the hierarchy Mambo provides?
