Exclamation assign a template to a static page ?

example:
you have a static page and the page is about your company.
This page is callled 'about us' --- it's linked to a menu.
The text mentions bob and it says click here to know more about bob.
This word links to a static page 'about bob'.
since you do not want to add this to your navigation, this means that when you go to bobs page the template you assigned to 'about us' reverts to 'default' -----since templates are asisigned by menu items.
Is this correct!?
surely there must be a way around this?
Why not make it possible to assign a template to a static page in the parameters as one can to a menu--via a dropdown selection of the templates installed?
Does anyone know how to get around this problem please !!
I have 80 odd 'lose' pages of info for different template areas---- I can't imagine having an invisible menu and assigning them all that way.

Templates: Assign

This page lets you assign the template chosen to specific Menu Items/pages.

The drop-down displays all your Menu Items grouped per menu.

You may highlight here multiple items.
This will override de default template for the pages chosen.

If you choose 'None', the Default template will be used for all Menu Items/pages.

Toolbar Icons:

Save: Saves your choice and returns to the Template Manager.

Cancel: Cancels the action and returns to the Template Manager.

I would create the content I wanted as a Static Page then assign a second template (or a renamed copy) to that page. An exmaple would be here on my site:

http://www.gotgtek.com/

and the static page would be here
http://www.gotgtek.com/cms/wrapper/

Does this answer your question

Thanks for the reply doctorj,
no, that wasn't the answer I needed. I don't think I made myself understood properly.
I meant being able to assign a template to a static page created within mambo,
not wrapping one into a template.
Unless a static page is linked to a menu, there seems no way for it to know what template it should take on, other than default.
Therefore if I link some text from one static page to another, the template is not 'inherited'.

the only option seems to create a secret menu and then link the static page to it....this is very time consuming and not very pretty.

also, another issue I've found with that as well. The assigned templates only display the 'Published' pages in the list. If you want to assign it to a hidden menu item:
- create a menu item and make sure it is published.
- assign a template to it.
- go back to your menu items and un-publish it.

You now have a hidden page that has an assigned template to it.

Here's the kicker though. Since that page is unpublished, it will not show up in your list of pages that the template is assigned to. So if you make any changes to the list of pages the template is assigned to (other than your hidden menu item of course), it will force your hidden item back to the default site template. And you have to do the process over again to un-hide it, assign the template, and re-hide it again.

Anyway, when I get some free time, I'm going to see if I can hack that assigned templates area to allow it to see unpublished pages as well.

Good luck.

I will try to play with mine to see if I can replicate the problem. You might want to also get a Developer involved.

Thanks for your input guys.
I've really found some major weaknesses now in the template system with a project I've been working on.
http://www.mambers.com/showthread.ph...066#post104066
This thing is very difficult to control and the unatached pages are really destroying what was until now going quite well.
I'm going to try the hidden menu thing..but it's going to be a silly amount of work.
