| rotating 'who's on air now' banner for a radio station? (newbie alert ;-) ) Hi folks,
I'm helping to build a Mambo site for a community based radio station in Ireland.
One of the things we're trying to integrate is a 'who's on air now' feature that updates at the start of each show. Show times are pretty regular so it's not a big issue to input these into a list to be read by whatever is going to display the results.
To make matters a tad complicated, in a perfect world it would be great to be able to display the name and a thumbnail photo of the DJ currently on air. The icing on the cake would be a means to have the DJ's name as a hyperlink to their profile page (I have the profile pages created already).
And all of this would sit neatly in the right side column of a 3 column mambo site.
I've wondered about some of the banner rotation systems and just ignoring the additional features that would be geared towards actual advertising banners.
Am I asking too much?
Anyone any thoughts, suggestions?
As an aside I'm also interested in general pointers from anyone who has used Mambo for a radio station web site.
Many thanks for taking time to read this.
I'm a Mambo newbie and though this is my first forum post I look forward to a more 'giving' relationship into the future.
Regards,
Michael. |

Looking back over my previous post, maybe I've over complicated the whole thing. A text/graphic/link banner that I could have display between 09:00 and 12:00 each day and then be replaced with something else between 12:00 and 15:00 and so on Mon - Fri with a slightly different schedule at the weekends would all work fine. I'd even settle for a text banner with a link to the relevant DJ profile page. |

| Re: rotating 'who's on air now' banner for a radio station? (newbie alert ;-) ) Hey Bro,
Just so that you know, Fiji Web Design Technologies is currently designing a module of that sort which will be compatible with the Community Builder and displays user Photo and profile link. When you click on his/her image display, it will take you to his /her profile page. However, it is still under production. As far as I know it will run off Apache and can be built into newsletters or e-mails. So that when a user checks his/her e-mail online and views the newsletter or e-mail, it would also display the users online at the time. So in your case the user will get to see which DJ is currently on Air and will also have a link to his/her profile page. But the DJ may have to log in before he goes on Air otherwise he could make it out that it runs under the server time or something of that sort. It is currently under production at the moment but if you contact bucabay@yahoo.com, I believe he could most probably script something special for you. Just tell him that Navstar sent you and refer him to this post. Alright, hope that you find what you want . |

| Re: rotating 'who's on air now' banner for a radio station? (newbie alert ;-) ) Hi I'm new to Mambo aswell and was wondering if this question led anywhere?
I developed a student radio site using xoops but am looking into the possibility of reinmplemneting it in Mambo.
I got the rotating banner working in Xoops by hacking a calander module, it's quite messy but works. Essentialy the calander module is used to input show times etc. Then I wrote some php that goes through the calander table and finds the show that is on at the present time. The relivant information is then pulled from the table and displayed.
You can have a look at urfonline.com .
I've only just started with mambo so haven't done any development but if you're intested in how I get on just mail me.

| Re: rotating 'who's on air now' banner for a radio station? (newbie alert ;-) ) Website linked by magicmonkey no longer exists as a website... it points to a reseller. I too am a relative newbie to Mambo, and have been commissioned to build a website for a radio station. If ANYONE has any information as to how to make this "On Air Now" concept work in Mambo, I would GREATLY appreciate someone letting the rest of the community know about it! |

| Re: rotating 'who's on air now' banner for a radio station? (newbie alert ;-) ) i've spent about 5 mins trying to write out what this would be in code.. but i can't.. crap... i said no to programming 2 years ago.. and i suddenly find myself needing to know how to properly do the if/then/else statement.. and i keep getting brain fars from it.. hehe.
I can't figure out how to make the "if time is between 8 & 12 display this picture,else 12 & 15 display this picture2, else 15 & 18 display this picture3, else display block_banner"
thats basically the theoretical code.. i'm sure i could find it in my c++ docs but that won't work on here.. you could write it into a module, just research if then else statements for php, but it would have to take the local time of the server. so its possible to figure out.. and it would be a cool module to have.
