Just had a long post attempt time out so will try a shorter version.
Evaluating Mambo and Xoops to replace a large static html site in sad need of format/style updating but lots of good content at
http://www.3dsoundsurge.com
In addtion to our own reviews and articles we post news of other sites stories that relate to PC audio.
We currently use a CGI program that is set up to give headlines that bookmark to the stories below on the same page (could have been set to seperate page or individual story per page) and it autoarchives old news.
Xoops has a module that comes close to this - only thing missing so far is the news on one page comes from clicking on the web news link where as headline clicks go to individual articles. Anyway, its reasonably close to what I want. Check it out at

In Mambo the news module is not really set up for this purpose and I so far can't find a custom module that does this. Closest I can come is using a blog page for the news section but can't figure how to get the headlines and of course ideally I would like those headlines to link to the news stories where multiple news article stories display on one page and auto archive. That would be the ideal but if I could at least get it to work as well as it does in Xoops I would be very happy as I so far am finding that the article management features of Mambo are much more in line what what I need for a content based site. Here's what I have using the blog in Mambo (the "3DSS News Test" menu link)

Any guidance will be appreciated. FYI if I go with Mambo I will be waiting for 4.6 to go live with the site conversion as I need sub-categories that are coming in that version so if what I need is coming in 4.6 that would be fine.
