Default Mambo Offline development environment???

I am wanting to develop my new mambo 4.5.1 site offline. Does anyone know of a good "emulator" or IDE that will let me do this?

Thanks

Mark

I have been working on a new website using Mambo offline. I installed Apache2, mySQL and PHP on my laptop. I was scared that it would be hard but all 3 programs are free and open source with lots of docs. It took me around 3 hours and now I can test almost any script I want too.
Hope this helps.

Peace
Brad

Two options:

The first has been pointed out, simply download and install Apache, MYSql and PHP seperately and install them on your machine.

An easier method is to search for WAMP (Windows Apache Mysql PHP) or LAMP if your doing this on Linux. These are prebundled installs of these programs that allow you to install them onto your computer through an install wizard - so all you do is point and click.

Mambo has its own WAMP - MSAS Mambo Standalone Server:

But any WAMP will do, I use Apache2triad myself.

Of course if you really did mean IDE, Integrated Development Enviroment, than I recommend Dreamweaver (commercial) or PSPad (GPL).

you can save yourself 3 hours and dwonload MSAS that i made. It takes longer to download and extract that it takes to get it running.

simply extract, clcik once on the msas.exe and then clcik on the 'start mambo server' link in the application and just like that you have mambo running on php, mysql on your windows PC.

I use topstyle lite for css development and Maguma for php. I have Dreamweaver MX. I got it through work - it is pricey otherwise. In about 2 years experience with DW, I'm finding other products are better. I am also playing with Style Master 3.5.

Cheers,

David

p.s. if you can't find the links for these products, let me know and when I am not feeling so lazy, I'll post them.

I'd definitely suggest using MamboSolutions' MSAS... I eventually switched to it after using UniServer to do all my offline development.

I still use UniServer on my laptop (or at least what's left of it... ), and use MSAS on my desktop for the main stuff. Since MSAS is based on UniServer to begin with, it just seemed to be a natural leap. :-)

All in all, MSAS gets the two-thumbs-up from this little corner of the world.
