I do not like image banners, unless I am hiding text words from google adsense (to avoid triggering competitive ads).
I modified the mod_random_images module so that it can use images or small html-tagged text files. This permits randomized textual banners. Textual ads are quicker to create, and some folks simply like them better. The module can be downloaded from
http://www.garryp.org
Features: Basically similar to the original, plus:
* can display txt/htm/html files in addition to the original assortemnt of images.
* ability to specify a single filename if you do not want the position to rotate.
* by not using the 'link' feature, multiple links can be embedded in a textual banner.
* control search engine access to banner content by using images to 'hide' content, or use text to allow search engine to see banner content.
*provides rotation for text-based affiliate ads that reference an image sourced on their site.
This module is for 4.5.1a. I tried to trap all likely errors, but no promises. I do not expect to conduct extensive support, as it works for me, and if it works for you, I am happy for you.
The code in this module was based on the original module which I shamelessly pirated as a starting point. I make no claims of creativity.
