Flame Could not find an XML setup file in the package

I reinstalled mambo 4.5.1a and everytime I try to install a new component, or even a template, I get an error as shown in the title.
For a new template it works alright if I just just upload the map with any FTP-program and refresh the administrator-page but that trick doesn't work for components.
Anyone who knows why a XML-file was not be found

Add-on modules or components always come in compressed (ZIP) files and they always include an XML file along with other necessary stuff. So, when trying to install a new module or component, you should point at that ZIP file by clicking on the "browse" button. Then Mambo can recognize the module by checking the XML file in it.

Hope this helps.

Unfortunatly not.
I never had this problem when using the former installation, but after the new installation this problem ocured.
I use the same zipfile as I did earlier so that cannot be the problem either.
For some reason Mambo just don't recognise the XML-file.

I see... Could it be because the newly installed Mambo (for some reason) can't recognize ZIP files and probably doesn't decompress them when you try to upload and install? Does it accept and save all other files in the ZIP (.php, .txt etc.) to their correct directories but just can't find XML's? Or is there a problem with decompressing?

You obviously sound like an experienced Mamber - probably far more so than me but...

Can I just ask - if you look inside the zip file is there an .xml file present? Are you using new components / modules (as you know old modules and components are not all compatible with 451a)? Old templates will, on the whole, work with 451a but certain changes are required if you want to take advantage of the latest features.

Another possible issue - when you say you reinstalled 451a, was this a totally fresh reinstall? Did you remove all folders entirely and start again. If so my guess is a permissions problem on either a temp folder or an install folder - just a thought.

Have you checked all the relevent folder permissions in System --> System Info --> Permissions.
Also as you go through the global config screens other warnings about specific files permissions are often visible - have you checked these?

Also, I think I have seen instances in the past where one failed installation attempt 'blocks' future attempts - old files getting in the way of new, or some files existing so installation is aborted. I would look to ensure all remnants of previous installation attempts are removed before trying again.

One final possibility - there seems to be a round of php updates ongoing at the moment. Could your host have updated php or some other server side technology that affects installation (turning on safemode for instance)?

Probably no help - but thought I would post on the off chance.

Dean.

First off all, Mithra and Deanmarshall, thanx for the attemp to help out.
As I mentioned earlier, I use the same ZIP-files as I did before so there's nothing wrong with them.
The permissions are all correct for if it wasn't, I couldn't complete the installation.
There is however a possibility that some files of the earlier instaalation were still on the server.
I thought I trashed them but now I'm no longer sure I trashed them all.

So for now I'll completely trash Mambo and instaal all over again.
If then still is the problem I'll check the other possibilities you both mentioned.

I'll be back

After removing Mambo completely and reinstalling mambo I'm still not able to install any modules, components and templates.

Upload component - Upload Failed
ERROR: Could not find an XML setup file in the package

My best guess is that the host has enabled safe mode - perhaps following a php upgrade.

And so it is.
I contacted my provider who now turned off the safemode.
Everything is working properly now.

I had the same problem. Then I found out that there was a zipped file inside the zipped file. I un-nested it and then bingo!
