Default Dynamic Title Override

I wish there was some way of overriding the Dynamic Title feature in 4.5.1

it would be great if there was a box where the meta tags are where any title could be entered. If there was no title then it could just use the default or whatever the page name is called.

Im having a hard time trying to get SEF functionality working while being able to write whatever title i want

SEF urls are v important for SEO, thats the first step, get the website spidered. But titles are probably equally important.

I would really like to see it if someone has come up with a hack for this or maybe a nice little admin component.

Which version of Mambo are you using?
What you are asking is a standard feature of 4.5.1a

Look in your administrator backend -> Site -> Global Configuration

especially:
-> SEO
-> Metadata

none of these solutions really solve this problem for me.

I like the feature in 404sef of being able to use title alias for the page name so that you can choose your page name etc. however, there are problems with modules if you want to write long titles and the item list on the category page also causes problems too.

I just want to be able to write any title i want into any page on mambo, home page, sections, categories and items, I also would like to be able to decide the page name for SEF and keep this different from the title of the page.

I wish there was just a bit more control with the titles of documents, perhaps several title fields, for SEF page name, <Title> tag and title of the page.

You an do what you want with 404sef just give it a try. Just edit the generated URL and put whatever you want.

Hi Twysm,

Its not 404SEF that i am having the problem with,

Its the <title> tag of the page.

Sections and categories just use the menu name, so you cannot write long titles for these. Items use the title field only, so you cannot write long titles here either, unless you want the long titles coming up in your modules and the title of the page and the search function etc.

The problem I am having is the fact that the titles are dynamic and they are being automatically generated from the titles i give my documents and it doesnt allow me to write long enough titles.

I really would like the <title> to be static rather than dynamic, or at least have the option.

I think I may have worked out a way to achieve this but its going to be hard work for me as my php skills are limited

Here is what i propose to do:

Find "dynamic title" variable in mambo (i think its mambo.php) and hack it so it finds the <title> from title_alias in the content database table. This way i can write long titles in the title_alias field for a content item in mambo administration and it wont appear anywhere else in the page (hopefully)

Hack Sections and Categories so that they do not have a <title> tag. Then add the <title> manually to Sections and Categories. (if someone was a bit of a whizz with mambo they could add a field into the sections and categories in mambo administration for title alias and give these tables a new field in the database)

it seems like quite a long way round but also seems like the only way, if anyone has any better suggestions please post them.

I have also been trying to find the dynamic title variable in mambo.php, and have found parts of it and tried to change with no luck.

I would really appreciate some help with this if anyone knows how to achieve it ir can point me in the right direction.

yipppie,
Just to understand your goal, are you suggesting to have different page titles to what you have in the menu links relating to those pages?

Hi Mambovince,

Yes thats exactly what im looking for.

heres what i would like to achieve

1 - <Title> - Get your widgets here, the best widgets in the world, Home of widgets.

2 - Page Name - /my-widgets.html

3 - Header/Title/H1 of page (This appears in the content) - Read Through to find all about widgets.

I would like it if i can name the <title> and name the "Page Name" and name the H1 of my articles all differently.

Then theres the other problem that sections and categories cannot achieve this as they only have one field for title and one field for name.

I have found a nifty solution that doesnt quite complete the job but gives the ability to add section <title>

http://www.tim-online.nl/index.php/i...art,0/limit,5/

its called titlechange121.zip

It allows you to change title and metadata for Menu items.

I have managed to get it to work with all menus but still cant find a way to name categories and items as it only works with menus in mambo and not category or item lists.

i thought a way around this would be to create a dummy menu that does not get published with a URL link to all categories and items and then use titlechange to change each category and item etc.

but this doesnt appear to work as titlechange cant seem to work with URL Links

I am getting lost quite rapidly, would really appreciate if someone can solve this problem
