I am having a strange problem and I'm not sure if this is a bug or by design.

I do not want to have a Home link on my mainmenu. Thus, I went and unpublished the mainmenu Frontpage component from my mainmenu. Doing this removed the Home link from my mainmenu, but it also, removed the frontpage item completely from my website. So, now when I go to index.php what I see is the first item (a category) as my frontpage instead of my original frontpage that I had. This does not make sense. I thought I was just unpublishing an item from a menu, why is it affectign the frontpage?

So, then I decided I would get around the problem by placing the Home link on my top menu (rather than the left side mainmenu where it was originally). But, when I create a new Home menu item and point it to the Frontpage component, this new link on the topmenu now has a different itemId then my original Home link did on the mainmenu. And in addition to this, it still does not act as a true frontpage because I still don't see this page when I go to index.php.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This is the way mainmenu works. To avoid the problem create a "mymenu" menu (don't put Home in it) publish it and unpublish your mainmenu.
Sounds complicate but it's simple. Mainmenu doesn't allow you to play with Home item, but Mymenu does.
