Lightbulb odd menu issue

Hi All,

I've discovered a strange scenario on 'Mambo 4.5.1a Stable' relating to how section/category relate to the Main Menu (com_menus) and then how they are deleted (not appearing to be recursive).

Here is a brief description:
  • Set up section, category, content and linked content to the correct section/category
  • Made mistake in main menu of linking menu item to category list (not what I wanted to look like), then I linked the new content to menu directly (as content item)…
  • Trashed the original menu links (you only see main category in trash, all sub levels have vanished)
  • Created main menu links to content, now it looked like what I wanted
  • But when I link content to the main menu as a sub-level, like this
    • Product [main item]
      • Product 1 [sub-level]
        • Product 1a [sub-sub-level]
        • Product 1b [sub-sub-level]
      • Product 2 [sub-level]
      • Product 3 [sub-level]
  • Some of the sub-sub-level menu labels stay visible when clicked, and the full path is displayed correctly, as
    • Home > product > product 1 >product 1a
  • But other menus “close up” and the path becomes
    • Home > product 1b
  • The main menu table shows all the links as correct, and the section/category/content references are all correct.
After some investigation (and coffee) I found in the table 'mos_menu' that there were multiple menu items with the same name (all published still). What appears to have happened is that when removing the category list link it has not trashed the sublinks. Then after adding a content item link with the same name, we have multiple instances of the same item.

After changing the publication status manually in the mos_menu table to -2 on these duplicated entries, the menu system worked.

I hope this is helpful to anyone else experiencing peculiar issues with menu hierarchies’ disappearing!

Kind Regards,
Pete
