Default Any WYSIWYG editors work in 4.5.1?

I've Tried all 3 editors in Mamboportal's editors section, no WYSIWYG editors seem to work with 451... any others?

I've been using HTMLArea3 with no problems whatsoever

Glad to hear it...

But, I did the default install through "Fantastico" and the default wysiwyg editor didn't work... the buttons didn't funcion

HTMLArea3, area 2, fckeditor... and I'm not going to spend $47 on wysiwygpro, because from what I've read in forums it doesn't work either.

Is there another?

It seems to be a path problem... most of the buttons in HTMLArea3 pop up boxes that "Can't be displayed" and the few that pop up with content don't work...

What file might I start in?

I'm guessing that these editors are assuming an installation in the root of the web, and that is not how I've gotten it installed... and it is impractical to do so, as I've got a number of other components installed, and do not want the confussion that having these items and Mambo intertwined would cause.

Help

I would be willing to bet your problem is not with Mambo or the editors, but lies in the installation using Factastico

Try installing on your own it isnt as if installing Mambo is difficult

Already did, in a fresh seperate install...

Same outcome... not even the included default wysiwyg editor works

If you are sure your Mambo install is good. Then I can tell you wysiwygpro does work and I highly recomend it. Yes it costs money.
But it installs easily
Works perfectly
Can be configured easily

I prefer htmlarea2.

One reason I like it is that it is not supported by FireFox. So, if I want to use the editor, I log in with IE. Usually, I prefer to edit in html mode so I just log in with FireFox and its like there is no editor installed. The best of both worlds.

Well your experiencing something most of us dont. You are going to have to troubleshoot the problem.
Not an easy task, but it can be done.
Lots of folks are using the editors and there are lots of them out there.
Just curious, did you make sure the editor Mambot is published and you have the correct editor set in the site config?

There is a whole forum on editors on the official site forum. You might check there as well

config.inc.php seems to be the culprit, from posts I am receiving elsewhere....

The lines that look suspect are

$MY_DOCUMENT_ROOT = $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']."/images/stories"; // if you are using Docman change this to '/dmdocuments';
$MY_BASE_URL = '/images/stories'; // if you are using Docman change this to '/dmdocuments';

the folder I'm in is called "new" so i've changed those lines to

$MY_DOCUMENT_ROOT = $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']."/new/images/stories"; // if you are using Docman change this to '/dmdocuments';
$MY_BASE_URL = '/new/images/stories'; // if you are using Docman change this to '/dmdocuments';

Still either the popups come up empty... Insert file, Insert image

or they don't work.... insert character, insert table...

help
