Default "User menu" shows up twice

After a re-installation of joomla, the user menu, placed in the "left" module position, shows up twice in the frontend. In backend, the module is only represented once in the module list, and in the menu manager.

Someone knows how where to change to get it to only show up once, as usual? This is the only menu, and module with this problem, at present.

Thanks for your time!

Duplicate entries in the database - use phpmyadmin to edit them out.

Thanks for your response!

Where, which tables? I've looked around but do not know where to find it?

The strange thing that it doesn't double up on all pages, but the most irritating is of course that it is shown twice on the front page...

Anyone?

Sunflower - Sorry for the delay in response.

With phpmyadmin you can look for tables "mos_menu" and "mos_modules" or "jos_menu" "jos_modules" depending on your table prefix... check the db because duplicates will not always show up in backend menu manager.

Verify that they are not duplicated in the database and also not published twice on the frontpage - perhaps under a different name.

Thanks so much for your response!

I can't find any duplicates for modules or menu items in these tables.
There must be something wrong, somewhere, I just can't find it. *getting a bit frustrated*

See this thread for other possibilities:
http://www.mambers.com/showthread-t_20930.html
Have you tried unpublishing the usermenu? just to see if it disappears from both positions?
Have you checked via backend to see that the same module position is not published twice in your template?
Sight--Preview--Inline With Positions
Can you post a link to your site?

I found out what the problem was!

Looking again in the Admin->modules->site modules->user menu I finnaly realized that under "Menu Item Links" I had selected "All" AND the actual pages I wanted the menu to show up on.
This could be something which was messed up during restoring of backup - or it could just being me making a stupid mistake.

googirama for taking the time to guide me!
