How to have a two tiered registration process?

I’m setting up a site for a club which has members in the real sense who pay an annual fee. Joomla out of the box does not distinguish between public members and members of an existing club. I’d like to be able to collect more information during the registration process for our real club members as opposed to people who just want to register on the site. Question is how to go about this…

If I use Community Builder then there doesn’t seem to be any method of having a conditional registration process. For example, if a real paid up member is going through the registration process I’d like to have a check box that asks if they are a member of the club. If they are then it would ask for further mandatory details, such as postal address and phone numbers. For other people registering I’m not interested in that level of detail and don’t want to hassle them for it.

Additionally we have a club hostel which the public can stay in. When people book this I’d like to capture more details on them too.

Maybe it is possible to use Facile Forms to rework the registration page. However I’m no great coder and don’t want to get too involved in hacking some of the core parts of Joomla unless I have to.

There are other extended user components and modules which might be useful. Peoplestaff, Staff, Mambastaff, PartyStaff, AkoStaff, Userlist Extended….

I’m sure that there are other sites out there who have the same requirement….
