Now all we need to do is get 404SEF working for the following components:

Mambo PHP Shop
Simpleboard
Simple Machines Forum
Gallery2
Bookmarks v2.x - skip

Hi

Am having a spot of bother getting 404sef to work with Joomla.

My host is lunarpages.

When I turn 404sef on and logout all works fine. URLs look to be working well. However if I close the browser and try to go back to my website I get this error (think browser says error 303)

"Found
The document has moved here.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Apache/1.3.33 Server at www.your-work-at-home.com Port 80"

Have spent a couple of hours playing with the combinations of options in the .htaccess file. To no avail.

Only other thing I noticed which may help is in the 404Log there is an entry for favicon.ico

If I log back in as an administrator and turn off 404sef the site comes back up.

Was hoping someone could point me in the right direction

Thanks in advance.
Brian

Hello folks!

Got one serious issue and i hope someone can help me out with it.

When I enable 404SEF in mambo and reload the main page all seems allright....but!

The generated URL-s type /something/somewere/ work normal and the page loads without any trouble but when the URL is something like /someplace/somepage.html or somepage.html it throws me an 404 Error and the page cannot load.

Anybody have any ideas? Im desperate!

I do not have any suggestions to the previous posts other than I would probably contribute your issues to the configuration of the hosting server.

Anyhow, here is where I am at with 404SEF. I am running 404SEF and am enjoying the benifits of clean looking URLs and considerable amount of search engine referrals after only the first month of operation.

The problem is that the URLs seem to change. A search engine will cache the page, but the URL it caches often times produces the blank page error " You are not authorized to view this resource. You need to login." I look on the 404SEF administration panel and see there are sometimes up to five URLs per page. Here is an example of one variation:

GOOD URL
http://www.unlimiteddynamics.com/con...ana_point.html
NON-FUNCTIONAL / BAD URL
http://www.unlimiteddynamics.com/con...a_point_2.html

On a similar note, I am uncertain exactly when, but sometimes my left column links, such as "Home" and others willl render the same response. I believe it may have something to do with when I attempt to fix the above links by deleting one of the above links. I'm am as of yet uncertain.

Thanks,

P.S. By the way, I do find it cool that Google caches the content page as well as the PDF page.

A common problem is when your site is not at the URL root e.g. www.mysite.com but in a subdirectory like:

www.mysite.com/myhome1/mysub2/

to forget to uncomment and adapt the base URL from the .htaccess file to something like

RewriteBase /myhome1/mysub2

Maybe this can help to the few previous posts from what symptoms I can see.

I'm having the same problem with Lunar, if I activate the .htaccess file, my site is completely down. In my admin control panel, my most popular item is listed as 404, hit 1058 times. Lunar claims its not them, but SEF does not work on my site. www.e-desert.com
any suggestions? sue

I had the same problem after upgrading from Joomla 1.0.4 to 1.0.5

I went back to 404SEF-beta7 and it is working now

hello

I'm sorry but my english is no too good.

I have Mambo 4.5.2, install component 404SEF (4.5.1-PR1 vaersion). Mambo creating adresses like example, article, tile.html but when I go to this link I have error 404.
It is file .htaccess :

Quote:
##
# @version $Id: htaccess.txt,v 1.5 2005/01/22 23:00:27 spacemonkey Exp $
# @package Mambo
# @copyright (C) 2000 - 2005 Miro International Pty Ltd
# @license http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html GNU/GPL
# Mambo is Free Software
##

#
# mod_rewrite in use
#

RewriteEngine On

# Uncomment following line if your webserver's URL
# is not directly related to physical file paths.
# Update YourMamboDirectory (just / for root)

RewriteBase /

#
# Rules
#

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*) index.php

Server WWW is Apache2, in httpd.conf I have:
LoadModule rewrite_module libexec/apache2/mod_rewrite.so

so I think this module is working

Why SEF doesn't working. what else should I check ?
It is possible that this problem cause is incorrect version Mambo and 404sef (4.5.2 vs 4.5.1 PR1) ?

please, help me

I'm having exactly the same problem as Brian - the error number is a 302.

This is on a fantastico installed Joomla with, as yet, only the eWriting component installed. Nothing else controversial on the site.

Any ideas?

When I try to add a custom redirect, SEF404 says "This URL already exists in the database!". But it is not there. Not the old url nor the new one.
What can the problem be?
Thanks for any advice.
