DOCMan 1.3 beta 2 released

The development team is proud to announce the release of DOCMan 1.3 beta 2. We have been working very hard the last couple of weeks to bring you this new beta release. The most exciting new feature is the much requested multiple level subcatergory system. Beside this the code has been completely modularized and rewritten to allow more flexibility and easier maintanance.

DOCLink now also support multiple level subcategories and has been moved to a mambot format. Thus making it the first third party editor extension for Mambo 4.5.1.

We have added a few minor database changes, meaning u won't be able to upgrade an existing beta 1 installation. In beta 3 (probably the last beta) a database upgrade and backup manager wil be implemented. This will allow seamless upgrading from 1.2.x versions.

The frontend is undergoing a major rework. We weren't able to completely finish this in beta 2. Because of this we had to disable the update, history and email frontend features.

New features in DOCMan 1.3 beta 2

Administration/Backend
- An improved administration section and a reworked menu structure.
- A brand new file manager that handles all file specific operations (upload, delete, ...)
- Completely reworked upload wizard, you now have upload support for http, https, ftp protocols.
- An inovative browser based live-updating system that currently allows to update mambots and modules.
- A brand new theme manager, icon are now packed into themes. Themes also support css styling of the frontend.
- Ability to add thumbnails to documents
- PHP 5.0 compatibility
Frontend
- First phase completed : tableless output not yet completely valid
- CSS identifiers introduced to allow easy customization
- Display document details as a tooltip or as a seperate details page.
Configuration
- Added option to handle filenames with spaces
- Added 'reject filename' option for security reasons.
- Added tooltips as basic documentation
DOCLink
- Supports multiple level subcategory system
- Moved to mambot format
- Support TinyMCE (more editors will follow in beta 3)
Bugs fixes
- Fixed [#2449] Files with Uppercase extensions show generic icon.
- Fixed [ #2534 ] Corrupted files : XML / HTML appended to beginning of files (needs PHP > 4.2.0)

We have decided to release an intermediate beta, to allow more efficient testing of the DOCMan 1.3. This means there will be a 'last and final beta 4'. We expect to have it ready around mid december. If everything goes as planned 1.3.0 will be released in january 2005.

Beta 3 is not just a bug fix release, we also made the frontend output xhtml 1.0 transitional valid. U can use the power of css to completely style the frontend. DOCMan now uses tableless structured markup to give u more flexibility in your css styling. A tutorial and overview about the different css id's and classes used in the frontend will be released in a few days.

We added mambot triggers, to the frontend. Developpers will be able to create mambot the act on frontend events like onBeforeDownload and onAfterDownload. Currently we are working on a email notification and log bot to demonstrate the capabilities.

Frontend search is back available, and 'open online' has been added again, this was removed in 1.2.1.

DOCLink now also supports HTMLArea3 XTD, together with lot's of bug fixes. It should be working now on most systems.
