Flame Mambo Developers Guide

A new project has been created at mosforge. It will develop a developers guide including information on Modules, Templates, Components, Mambots and the Mambo API.

A proposed doc structure has been released and I would like to get some feedback.

Also, any developers who could spare some time and wisdom to help on this project are invited to contact me via the project forum.

The project can be found here...

I'm glad to see people think this is a good idea. Like you I have struggled to get the information I needed.

I would once again encourage anyone interested to download the Proposed Structure I have on mosforge and let me know your thoughts and any topics that I have missed out.

Once I have the structure worked out I will start the content in earnest.

The doc can be found here...

The Mambo Developers Guide needs some helpers.

Anyone who could spare a little time to help out is encouraged to join the development of this much needed Guide. You don't need to know evrything there is about Mambo.

We need proof readers, functional testers, writers etc.

If you have some time and would like to donate it to a good cause, please respond via Developers Guide forum HERE

I offer myself to make a translation to spanish of the texts.

I have already translated a Game (Street Hacker - www.streethacker.com) but it's not a public release, yet.

Just SMS Me (www.kbm.com.ar/sms) or send me a Personal message in this page.

1. Don't create huge PDFs. Thee quarters of a megabyte for 2-3k of information is a huge waste and took me several minutes to download.

2. You have sections for phpgacl components and XML-RPC. Is this aimed at the current release or the next release? Neither of these are really relevant to 4.5.

3. If you want to create open source documentation I suggest doing it in a semantic format (such as Docbook). You can then use it to generate PDF/HTML/whatever format you like.

4. What licence do you intend to use? The Gnu FDL would be the most appropriate.

5. Good luck

I have currently listed it as GPL but will look into Gnu FDL. I appreciate your guidence as this was an issue I wasn't sure about.

Answers:

1. Point taken... I could produce two... one small no thrills and one fancy, then people can choose for themselves. Its no extra work for me so it might be a good compromise.

2. Looking into this (this information is basically taken from the current manual, hence the request for comments). Thanks for the feedback.

3. Also looking into this, I'm not familiar with Docbook.

4. See previous post.

5. Thanks.
