Default Simpleboard Forum Component 1.0 RC4 Released!

Simpleboard 1.0 RC4 released!

Today, April 13th, Simpleboard 1.0 RC4 is released!
It will be the last release before 1.0 stable so please test this version as thorough as possible!

This version has many new and innovating features which guarantee more integration with Mambo and provide your users a much more dynamic integrated Forum Solution for any Mambo website!

So what's new?

-- Simpleboard RSS feed; syndicate your latest posts around the world and deliver the new posts to your users desktop!
-- New MOSbot with integrated support which allows you to have your users discuss your Content Items on the forums!
-- New SB Quick Search Module with integrated support; let your users easily search the forums; even for posts of a specific user!
-- Uploadable Images and files; allow your users to upload their own images and files and have them attached to the postings! Fully admin configurable!
-- Control the size and types of uploadable files and size/width/height properties of uploadable images.
-- Uploaded Images/Files browser integrated in the Admin Backend... for all the control you need..
-- Safe_mode capable image/file/avatar uploads... You'll never know your hoster has this restriction enabled..
-- New Posts Indicators on forums and topics! Now your registered (!) users can easily find what's new and where it is!
-- Improved session control and handling with improved cookie handling; more security and less overhead!
-- bbCode support for signatures! Full and complete...!
-- Yet Improved bbCode!
-- Improved Admin backend. Yet eassier and more natural configuration of your board
-- Improved Search security! The search function now takes into account the privileges the searching user has on your forums. Posts for which the user doesn't hold privileges to view will not be shown in the result list
-- Improved display of found Items in the search screens
-- Admin configurable subject line length
-- "Edit Markup"; Admins can configure their forums to display editting markup when user(s) edit their posts. Markup is in the form: "Post edited by: Username, at: date"
-- Categories can now be hidden for users which do not hold privileges to enter them too
and many more small bug fixes and improvements!!

More information, changelog, download link, upgrade and installation instructions here on the TSMF website

I have just mailed my provider today (er, yesterday, 1 in the morning here in France..) about a problem accessing the Macromedia blogs, the pages just never load for me, tried IE, NS Firefix, not a browser issue, not Macromedia either (have mailed them, answer the same day: easter monday! great support!), so if anyone has any ideas what do I need to tell them to do (clear cache/proxie? delete hosts file entries? i dunno), I'd be gratefull as i do not expect their tech support to be usefull..might be the same issue here..

Had trouble accessing TSMF website as well. Seems that it is extremely busy or something. You can also download it from Mamboportal.com

How do you guys install the latest release if you already have an older version installed? Do you ftp the new files? Or delete the old one and install the new one?

No.. don't override it..

Read the change log first.. because if there's DB structure change, everything will go wrong.

Best is uninstall the old one and reinstall the new one if you're not confident. BUT you lose all previous posts and settings.

Did not loose posts.
Its a great upgrade. The only thing I am having trouble with is the attachments.

Hi y'all;
I don't know why some people can't seem to load my site... as hundreds of other can... nothing special on the site..

Upgrade instructions are contained in the announcement letter on the site. Where it all comes down to is:
1. backup avatar directory (to preserve user uploaded avatars)
2. backup the uploaded directory (to preserve user uploaded images/files)
3. uninstall older version
4. install new version
5. restore backed up directories.

You will not loose posts in the process. Manual upload will not suffice as database changes are then not carried out.

Latest Downloads are always available from the MOSForge site. This is the preferred download location as new fixes/patches will be offered from there... speaking of which:
Yesterday evening (04/13 23:00 CET) an annoying (not serious) bug was discovered in the file/image upload mechanisms in conjunction with MS Internet Explorer.
There is a patch and a new patched package available for download from the mosforge site.
