Amen.
I can hard code user levels (which I frequently must), but I miss nested categories the most.

Mambo is a phenomenal cms, but the sect/cat/art hierachy should be rethought.

[maybe OT]
There is one thing I wonder about:
If Mambo 451 is stable, and no features get added, what will the Maintenance Team work on..? Fixing bugs, security holes etc.. there haven't been many since 451a I think?
I'd have thought a good (almost said better..) investment of workpower and knowledge would have been to get a good, complete, functional Documentation out! That's the one thing which always comes last, but is most needed.
Admin docs, 1st use/setup docs, customization docs, writing CMTs... A solid document on which to build for v5.
Example: http://forum.mamboserver.com/showthread.php?t=24197
Just look at the post count of mamboserver>operating mambo>admin & install: 20 500 posts!! (out of 24 000..)

I don't care about any battles of Mambo vs CMS X or Y because I don't use any other.

I started using Mambo exactly one year ago, I like the prolific and helpful community, but I wonder how come in all the new versions that came out since last december, why none of the most-requested features were added..?

I do agree with Oxytocin about using existing, already developped and tested code (just like was done with Wrapper and myMenu) for user management/groups, community features, and multi-language support (both front- and backend!), and integrate these features before trying to add other stuff (like better RSS or whatever).

Work on full standards-compliance, as this seems to be a major request.
List the Top 10 "most requested features" (or poll them) and the corresponding Components/Modules which exist and could be used side by side, contact the dev's , save time.
2 €-cents..

LOL,

it seems some Members of the core team reacting a little bit agressive. Why did I know, that they will start to complain about this thread? Because you are not able to handle critics? Because you think I want to attack you and your work with this thread?

Come on, it is true, that I give the topic. But this topic has nothing to do with my personal opinion. If you read my news on Saturday, you will see, that I agree with the actual politics of the development team.

But others may not. And this is the reason for this forum and for an open discussion about the things. Neither I nor the development team can tell, what the community wants. This can only be done by the community itself.

Personally I believe that it is a chance to face the results of this thread. Think about it...

PS And sorry if I got the team split up wrong. I sounded to me, that a new team will be formed, which will be lead by Rey. If this is untrue, than please explain your plans again a little bit more detailed by mail and I will announce it on MP again.

Now please back to the topic!!!

Arthur its not being aggressive, its assertiveness born out of frustration

A new team will be formed lead by Rey. Note the word new that means new people. If we meant that the team would be split into two sub teams then we would have said that the team would be split into two sub teams.

If its not your personal opinion then you should be much clearer. It definitely comes across as your personal opinion and a very negative one at that.

If you did not mean it to be your personal opinion then I suggest that you re-word your statement on mp.com as a newcomer visiting mp.com would not get that impression.

Default Make Mambo not War

There is no split.

There is no war.

Mambo does Mambo the Mambo way.

Mambo certainly draws inspiration from the Drupal way, the Xaraya way, etc. Each have their strengths and weaknesses but they are all individual. But it is absurd to think that we would be drawn into a feature war. My goodness. That's not what Mambo is about. Unless I'm seriously misjudging things it's not what this community is about.

If you want Mambo to be a T3 then I suggest you swap to T3. Mambo will never be T3 just as T3 will never be Mambo.

Mambo is also so much more than a feature set. What would Mambo be will all the richness that people desired but had no support, no community arena, no good direction... Mambo is what it is today because people are working hard on all aspects of the project - coding is just *one* of those aspects.

5.0 may very well have less 'features' and 4.5.2, who can say. But I can say this, that we are striving to make 5.0 do what it does very, very well. That is the Mambo way.

Anyone for a dance?

how many of you installed typo3? I've installed it about 2 months before I've ever heard about Mambo. Now I've using Mambo... why? because I've find typo3 hard to learn and use...

multilanguage? - Mabelfish component (works perfectly!)

if you need something more than Mambo can give you - buy commercial portal

sorry abou bad english...

I installed and used typo3 once over a year ago and it was very difficult to work with! As soon as I realized what Mambo could do, I dumped typo3 like a bad date.

Multi-language is a thing that must be integrated 100% but the god thing in mambo is the simplicity.

Is or it isnt "mambo . Power in simplicity"?

Mambo its one of the best thing that hapend to me since i started to make some things in the web, and I agree that we must have log periods of stable versions. Mambo is the BEST of is kind, and should stay like that.
