Yep, and i see they have really fast servers

Our server equipment is from brand names such as Supermicro, IBM, Intel, etc. All accounts are being hosted on modern dual 1.26 GHz Pentium III servers or faster. Servers come with 2 GB of PC133 registered ECC SDRAM or faster from Kingston.

My own pc is almost faster :/, not looking at the amount of RAM, but just at the type of RAM. I don't mind if you want to say that that's fast, but at the moment most fast servers have like a dual 2.8 Xeon processors with 2 GB of PC2000 ram or something

Wow guys thanks for the witch hunt. I will address each of your questions one by one.

You asked - Are you charging for the gpl templates?
I see prices of $300 on each or more and wondered why.

Answer - We charge for adding content, logos, graphics work to the current graphics, colors, etc. That includes 5 pages of content. We are NOT charging for the template, but for our services of modifying the template. We do explain this on each template page.

The funny thing about this is we have yet to use a template, we just have it as an option for smaller businesses. All our clients thus have requested customized templates that we create in house. In the event our staff gets over booked we outsource the work to other design and development firms that are close to our customers.

Not sure why you are having slow load times, our connection is 2.5 Gb/s (yes that is Gb/s) to the Internet. I had our monitor service check the connections today and everything seems to be within acceptable limits. If/When a servers gets slow then we upgrade, like anyone else. Let us know if you have any more problems getting to our site.

As far as template prices it is the going rate for the North Carolina area. Actually we are fairly cheap compared to some. Again we are not actually charging for the template but for our services to make the template what the clients wants.

Answer - First of all read the above responses to the template question, but just in case you missed the first two times we do NOT charge for the actual template but for our services to modify the template the way the clients want it to look. Logo, text, image modifications, etc. If your template is up on our site please let us know, and we will remove it. If your template is not on our site, then your template did not pass our marketing department reviews. As far as the experience-the owners do have the experience, however that does not mean that they are creating our customer templates or making chages to the GPLed templates. Also there is nothing in the GPL that says one cannot sell something that is GPLed. I don't see people complaining about someone charging a client for adding a shopping cart, or other features to their site and those modules and components are GPLed too. We just don't hide behind what we use-we put it out there for everyone. If a client signs up and wants to put Mambo and a template up themselves then that is fine. We will even install Mambo for them for FREE!!!! However, when we make changes to templates we have to charge for our services. Again go back and read any of the the template pages carefully and you will see.

Robbie once again. Yes the server specs are a little out of date, however, for the few servers that are of that speed, I am sure they are holding up just fine. The key to web hosting is not necessarily the speed and feeds of the box, but how well it performs. It does not make business sense for any company to buy the latest and greatest if what they have is working less than 100%. The owners are extremely business savvy men and when a server needs to be upgraded they will do so. Newer boxes are Dual 3GHz Xeons with 2+ GM RAM. I will make sure our webmaster corrects the machine information on our website. Thanks for bringing that to our attention.

I would hope that your home computer is faster than a server. Most home systems are faster than servers. Fortunately for us, we don't like our servers to sit IDLE most of the time as your home system probably does. Your home system probably was not a business purchase, therefore you probably opted for the fastest, coolest thing you could get.

Wow with some of the very positive comments here I almost thought I was hanging out on the OpenBSD mailing list. I think we should all try to work together and keep our negative opinions to ourselves. Also doing a little homework and learning about a company would be a more productive way to approach not agreeing with someone. If you like us great, if not that is fine, too. That is your opinion and you have the right to your own opinion.

Well first of all I would like to aplogize for the comments,

I was just a bit shocked about the prices. I hope you undestand.

As for getting the best and coolest computer from the stand, not true, I have various machines at my house and do a lot of web designing. I also do Commercial templates for my customers, if you do want to see some examples feel free to view http://demo.allmambo.com

I understand that you would be mad about me attacking you but I also do not like to be attacked about not using my computer and just wanting the best thing around. I use a computer at least 8-12 hours a day using Photoshop, Dreamweaver and various other programs.

Sorry if you took offense, X-Factor I was not really trying to ding you. My comment about your system being under utilized was more about the fact that you may only at most use it 12 hours a day (assuming one has a life ). Where as a web server/database etc. can be utilized 100% of the time.

I do want to say that I looked at your site, and think you do a very good job with your templates.

I wanted to give you KUDOs for the documentation that you have done. It was very well thought out and very impressive.

One other thing to note about APPWS is that we actually strive to be more of a value added hosting provider mainly for the Carolinas but we are expanding as developers from all over the US have signed with us. The key for our success is to let developers do what they do best, and we will do what we do best. We are collecting as much of the components, modeles, templates, documents as possible and give our resellers a login and place to download what they need. This way they always come to us and they dont have to google to find things. When needed we will contract modules and components to be written for them. We have pricing on our site, in case someone wants us to do website, but our focus has become more on training web developers how to use Mambo and increase their profits. Show them examples of how to make Mambo not look like Mambo, but yet still get the benefits of a great CMS.

The other major reason for supplying pricing on our site, is so our resllers have an idea what to charge in our area. Again as a value added hosting provider we research pricing and post it to our site so our resellers have one place to go. We have several resellers right now and most of the web designs that we now get we outsource to our resellers, even though the client interfaces with us. We have also had requests from several resellers to let us manage the client in terms of discussions, money, etc. So again we are trying to let the developers and designers do what they do best, and let us manage the business and hosting side of things. I am sure this will become a feature very soon because we are getting a lot of request for this. I guess developers are tired of dealing with things other than what they enjoy.
