Development ripoff

so i met a questioning new mambo'er here on mambers, and have been giving him some tips. sent me a quote a developer gave him on setting up his mambo site. it included organizing his materials, site, and creating a "community where users can have their own profile" at $4950, are you serious, almost $5000 where a couple of hours and a few free components can do the same? i quickly told the d00d how to do it himself with some free help tossed in by me. has anyone else seen this? are we kinda failing the mambo os if we let the developers take over the newbies. Ok if it is a corporate site i can understand, but but anything less shouldnt come with $5k price tag. is this our fault as a community?

Partly yes, If you compare the mambo and vbulletin community, vb members are more helpful than mambers. I myself had to spend $150 to have a few hacks done or fixed. A lot of hacks for mambo are abandoned by their authors.
