Actually i believe this article is very good... although 4.6 has some improvements only the valid xhtml and the new installer are worth mentioning..

All of the other new options are perfectly possible in 4.5...

Mambo 4.6 in it's current state has taken a leap down towards usabilliity, in the menu/submenu's/editor/

Hopefully these will be left out in the final version.. or i myself would probably try to hack 4.6 in such a manner that the frontend becomes xhtml valid and the admin stays the same...

Since the admin has really taken a step back in layout and usability

I actually agree. It was a very good review, easily understood and great graphics.

But you have take into account that CVS is not stable, full of bugs and many features/items are only half completed (which is why reviews should only be done with released versions). Furthermore people are commenting as if it was a final version 4.6 - which is completely wrong.

This will be my final words on this issue unless provoked

Yes but if you read the article correctly you see that it points out that it is not a final version but a downloaded CVS version to see at what production state 4.6 is..

Because 4.6 was promised 2 weeks ago... this has changed because the development team, wanted more changes in the release, so it gives the visitors an overview of the on comming changes.

Not that it is a rare thing almost any software get's delayed..

Please do not make the mistake of stereotyping us ex-mods as having some kind of vendetta for Arthur and his enterprises. We have left the moderator team...not the Mambo community. We all have our own individual opinions which have absolutely nothing to do with us leaving as moderators.

Several of us continue to frequent the Mambers.com forum and help out as often as possible. In fact...a few of us were contacted by Arthur to return to the forum as "SuperModerators", but declined for various reasons. So let's please lay the ex-mod issue to rest.

Let me also remind you all that this particular forum is called "community arena". Here are the posting guidelines:

Need a place to rant, vent, spew? This is your place to ***** at the injustice and general unfairness of the World.

However, remember to follow the Mambers.com General Rules and Etiquette.
We are doing exactly what this forum was designed for. Everyone has their own point of view...and agree or disagree...this is the place to share it. So long as we all follow the rules...each has just as much right as the next to be here.

Happy Mamboing!

I think Arthurs review was quite objective... as with any review on any subject by any person there will be those who don't aggree and there will those who do.

At the end of the day your best review is your own... so download the CVS and have a go.

I did and I now have my own opinion.

Admin will become famous soon enough
Default Re: Here we go again

I'm really surprised to see such discussions raging about the article. In fact everyone has access to the Demo Version as well as to the CVS (if he/she is skilled enough to do a CVS checkout). But I got some mails these days asking for a released date (as you might know 4.6 beta was announced for mid may and final for end may).

So I decided to write an article about the current state of development. The current state has some nice features, but also includes things, which are not so nice. Don't you really think the Development Team is not able to handle critics right?

To make it clear to everyone, that this is only the current state of development, I also wrote a nice introduction:

Quote:
Please note, that a CVS release is not final and many things still can, and hopefully will, be changed by the developers. So this preview only shows you the current state of the development and this is exactly our intention.
So come on! Don't cry only because someone showed some negative issues on Mambo 4.6. It surely will be a big step ahead for Mambo, if anyone faces this critics objective.

Arthur, you make a conclusion for a CVS:

Quote:
Conclusion
The actual CVS release from May 30th of Mambo 4.6 is far from being finished. Too many things still have to be reworked to make Mambo 4.6 a pleasure. At the moment whole parts of the system couldn't even be tested as they did not work completely. The Global configuration gave us a Fatal Error as well as the Language Manager, which we really liked to test to see the new backend translation feature.

Although the Development Team definitely is on the right way with Mambo 4.6, it looks like they have missed a few steps. The usability is worse than in Mambo 4.5 and the system still has some logical errors (renaming to zero character names). But with the already very powerfull code backbone, it luckily only is a question of time.
It is not fair to make this kind of conclusion based on a CVS, that is how I feel.
