| aarrrggghhh Keep the Mambo community together! I will make this sort and sweet.
We all bear some responsibility in keeping the mambo community together. Those more actively involved more so than others.
The development team IMO has done an awesome job in bringing Mambo to the state it is in today. It is the best CMS there is (quality wise IMHO). All the other Mambo supporters and module/component developers have likewise added to the value of this great product.
Who cares who's component is bigger, better, smaller, lighter and who's site is officially the biggest, most visited, unique or pageloads etc etc..
This constant bickering is devisive and counter productive. "Devide and conquer" comes to mind.
I am so over this similar arguement that keeps going round and round in circles.
*these comments are my own opinion, and in no way are the views of the companies I may represent* |

| Re: aarrrggghhh Keep the Mambo community together! The community's not going anywhere. There are countless thousands of people using Mambo. They are the community. A handful of folks with tempers and attitudes won't affect that in the least. Like I said before - this is one forum on one fan site. It hardly qualifies as "the community". |

| Re: aarrrggghhh Keep the Mambo community together! Despite the palaver of the past few days, I have to also say that to my mind the mambo community is indeed a community, and functions well as a community. As a total newbie to mambo and to php, I have enormously appreciated the help of countless other mambo users, and the sense of overall commitment not only to mambo but to each other. I would not have managed to get anywhere without all the help I have had. Thanks, everyone!

| Re: aarrrggghhh Keep the Mambo community together! Let me preface by saying I've really appreciated both Phil and Arthur's work. I've sent money to both of them -- Phil for a component, Arthur through donations. And I've given back to the community in small ways with a some free code snips and a mambot...
_Everybody_, Castley included needs to grow up a bit and act like business people. I don't know if talent and short tempers or ego go hand in hand, but it's annoying the way things have gotten out of control the last few months over truly stupid issues.
Why start proclaiming MosForge "The Biggest in the World" when you know it's going to start a pissing match?
Why blow your fuse when someone else develops a component like yours?
I wish I could mail some prozac out to all these smart, talented people. Then again, professional companies have the ability to keep the geniuses appeased and focused on code, while the business people keep a pleasant public face on things. I'm sure there's no lack of drama behind the scenes at Interwoven, etc.
We need Arthur. We need Phil. We need Robert and all the core guys. And we need to stop looking like a bunch of high school kids playing head games with each other. |

| Re: aarrrggghhh Keep the Mambo community together! You know, I think people should get off of Robert's back with this. So what if he wants to distance the Mambo project from Mamboportal. Arthur and his site(s) have been involved in a great deal of the drama that has ocurred in the Mambo community -- whether through his actions or through the actions of others towards him. Whether your personal opinion is that Arthur is at "fault" in these instances is not important. I think the key is that the Mambo product, and the community as a whole is very stable, so it makes sense to create a sense of distance between the core product/community and the center of turmoil. Please understand this is not a did at Arthur personally, the facts are since the development team reined in the official forums and stopped allowing any kind of flaming/public turmoil at all, that activity has moved to other Mambo-related sites, Mamboportal being the best-known. I hope I've made my point clearly, though I'm sure I will find out if I didn't! However, I'll be away for a few days, so if I'm not around to defend my position, don't go gathering a lynch mob together until I have a chance to return and answer any criticisms. |

| Re: aarrrggghhh Keep the Mambo community together! yup..i agree...it's important to keep the Mambo community a nice one and helpful one...not good for it to have 2 camps...
anyway, i think there's a better way to tell ppl that your site's the original one and the other one is just a fansite!
maybe we should all forget about this incident and focus on making Mambo better =) |

| Re: aarrrggghhh Keep the Mambo community together! They might not represent the entire community, but the folks involved do represent the official site and the (unofficial) primary news site for Mambo. Were not talking a few newbs making noise. Say what you will about Mamboportal/Mambers, I've seen better download stats on my mambot here than on mosforge.
All of us that use and appreciate Mambo need to do the best we can to be both supportive and honest with developers and major contributors. Otherwise, forks are just a matter to time. And that might not be a bad thing... but I'd rather avoid it. |
